Thanks for the article. Just to clarify, we are bringing the kind of _gameplay_ you see in "World of Warcraft" in to the real world. i.e. questing and multiple types of battle (single player and team).

There are plenty of people out there that regard the cell phone as an emergency tool only, as opposed to a full communications device. This would make a perfect move for them, not to mention a great gift for graduates and the like.

True. But being a Windows Phone device, it was still safe to say that the phone itself was from Microsoft, in a sense.

"it was still kind of a slap in the face to Apple that Siri was, basically, recommending users take back the phone they were currently holding and replace it with a phone from one of their oldest rivals overall–newest in the phone sector–Microsoft."

Pretty sure Nokia makes the Lumia 900, just saying. The os provider is NOT the phone producer.

I think this is a great idea, although AA-powered mobile phones are not exactly new. I used to have a pre-GSM Motorola that could take AA batteries in case of emergency (although it required 4 pieces).

Still, the cost may be more than your average low-end mobile phone meant for the developing markets. I use a current-generation $30 Nokia as a backup phone, and it lasts for about three weeks on standby. There are even $20 models that last even longer. Sure, the battery is not likely to hold charge if unused for 15 years, but I doubt you would have to leave a mobile phone in your glove compartment for that amount of time.

But yes, the AA capability would be great for emergencies, like when you run out of battery in the middle of nowhere, or during a zombie apocalypse, when looking for a power outlet is just not feasible.

Randy--you're not alone in your thinking on that point. But as we well know, Apple has often pushed design boundaries before. They've done strange and unusual things to MP3 players and cell phones, not to mention what they did to the idea of the tablet computer. It's entirely possible that an Apple television could have a lot going for it that might be worth checking out. Still though, I think I'm with you on this one; it'd be tough for them to make something so innovative that it's worth paying the Apple premium when there are so many lower-cost alternatives out there.

Apple should not waste their time or money on a TV... If the year was 1950 I would say 'Just do it' But in 2012 I have 5 flat panel LED TV's and why would I want another?

That would be a positive step for Metro PCS and that would attract new customers to Metro PCS. That would be nice to be able to take your metro pcs LTE phone outside the normal coverage area. If that was the case then I would sign up to Metro PCS. Even though this would be sweet deal for Metro, I find myself wondering what Verizon is up too. I understand they want to buy AWS spectrum, but they put a notice that they want to sell their extra 700 mhz LTE spectrum both class A & B licenses and now this negotiations with Metro PCS. Verizon is showing all this to the FCC and the other carriers are not to happy with Verizon actions. If this deal would be a great benefit for Metro PCS, then why are they are so hesitant to ink the deal but rather wait for the FCC to rule on the subject.

Thanks for the inside word on that one, Nosgoth--and it is a hard position for Dish indeed. I've been a subscriber for the last few years, but never much cared for all the extra commercials I have to pay for in addition to the programming. Dish has to keep people interested in paying, but at the same time needs to keep the networks' interest in mind. Still, I'm happy to see such an advance, and we're glad to have you around and reading.

Well I can’t speak for anyone else, but I know I skip the commercials anyway, Auto Hop just makes it much more convenient. Most of what I watch airs during primetime hours on the four networks that PrimeTime Anytime records (ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX), and I mostly work evenings, so I almost never watch anything as it airs. That feature alone has made me love the Hopper. But now with the Auto Hop feature I can stop smashing my Skip Forward button constantly and just automatically jump through the commercials. I’m proud to be an employee of Dish, a company with the innovation to put this kind of control in the hands of their customers. I can imagine the other pay-TV providers trying to scramble and catch-up now, and that’s going to be tough to do.

This render looks good, very good: especially a larger display with tapering to the edges. I think the current 4 & 4S is boxy and the sharp edges make it more susceptible to dropping damage. I will be glad for a sleeker design. LM sounds futuristic and superlative: tres chic!

If you're saying that there was no apparent logic for the iPhone's name up to the fourth-gen you're right: iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4. But since the fourth-gen iPhone is called the iPhone 4, and the fifth-gen iPhone is the iPhone 4S, it's just weird calling the sixth device the iPhone 5.

It will probably be the "new iPhone" anyway.

Second XBOX?
Was the PSOne the first Playstation?
I'll stop now, let them name it what they want to.

While LTE has the potential to provide 4G speeds, the services that will be offered will still be significantly below the 4G spec.

HSPA= as 3.5G and LTE(currently discussed) as 3.75G would be more appropriate.

Yes I do, in fact I never claimed Apple invented the touchscreen phone. What I did say was that Apple "was the first company that managed to turn such a product into a best-selling device." What touchscreen phone prior to the iPhone was able to do what the iPhone did for the mobile business?

iPhone didn't introduce the touch screen smartphone, what they brougth was a simplified interface, app store and a proper mobile business model.

Who wants or needs one if you've already been fleeced by Apple on original and iPad 2 being released just over 6 months ago? Not that I'm that stupid to buy one in the first place. But I've got two Android Tablets with far more features and my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is lighter and thinner for every day use screen viewing w/ far greater readability in sun light no less!

But in spite of these facts, I find myself using my far more versatile netbook or ultrabook far more. Once upon a time I thought I couldn't live w/o a Tablet PC. But there is only so much you can do w/ a capacitive touch keyboard that you only barely have to touch (if at all) to put words up. Accidental touches are completely unavoidable and why I find myself using voice input more convenient and dependable than the touch interface anyway.

But as far as iPad 3 goes ....er not new iPad goes, we're talking about Samsung only getting a supplemental order for HD Screens on fabrication lines due to be upgraded as part of Samsung's $42 Billion in CAPEX spending this year. Which will leave Apple hoping Sharp's and LG's SHA problems get solved. While they helped give Samsung Record profits for the last quarter! haha...

Apparently Samsung is the only Screen supplier in the World that is able to actually produce these old technology (SHA patented in 1995) LCD screens using their own patented production methods! haha... and with the Apple vs Samsung Wars, Apple has finally bit the hand that feeds it, one too many times!!! :D lol...

I don't know what to say after watching this video. Google is entering into everything. If this comes true imagine how productive we became and how cool our life would be. If Google releases this I would be the first man who bought this. Cool man.

I think it's a speed issue. Most Android users are probably able to take advantage of 4G speeds where iPhone users cannot. It will interesting to see if this changes once LTE iPhones come on the market.

Skyrim...best rpg ever? Cmon, I have to agree with some of the guys above. Characterization of characters, even main characters is poor, your chance to act on the story /the world based on your actions is 0. A serious gamer (PC gamer) wouldn't even consider Skyrim in a challenge against a true masterpiece like Baldur's Gate. It's not a matter of personal taste, it's a matter of quality. Quality of dialogs, story, setting, characters. Much more demanding to the player, in terms of thinking, much more hard to achieve for the developers. Sadly, much less profitable...frankly, I don't even know why I'm writing this...it's just that RPGs over the last years had became so trivial from an intellectual point of view, hence, for an intellectual guy like me (I mean I like to use my brain, not that I'm smarter than someone else...) they have become so boring...
