We’ve covered the AR.Drone before ever since it visited CES and it’s been a popular “toy.” People have been coming up with code to make it do all sorts of cool things, such as tracking a red ball (interesting) and getting it running from regular computers, etc. People had worked on getting it working with Android devices and some may have succeeded to a point, unofficially. Now there is an official app in the Android Market from the makers of the copter.

This should open up the user base and hopefully get even more interest going around. The little green robot can now fly!

From the company that brought you the USB-powered butt cooler, the Thanko Anychair is geared toward cubicle dwellers out in China and Taiwan and the like, cultures in which an occasional desk-side nap is condoned, even somewhat encouraged, as a way to recharge the battery in the middle of the day. It goes from desk chair to fully reclined flat cushioned bed-like surface in right around 30 seconds.

Sure, it wouldn’t be unpleasant to have a way to put your feet up during work, and reclining it halfway up would make a comfortable, foot-elevated experience. Going to full bed in a lot of places would probably be sufficient to get you fired, especially these days. And in all honesty, this probably isn’t going to go over well outside of the culture for which it was intended.

Napping at work is encouraged in a lot of places–we’ve seen China and Taiwan, similar Asian cultures probably get in on that action too. And I’ve heard some reports that European cultures favor a nap at work–what does “siesta” mean, after all, if not “a brief midday nap”? Some research even suggests that humans are specifically designed to be “bi-phasic”, essentially getting tired twice a day, and that ignoring this second phase can lead to health problems.

Of course, try telling your boss all this in the midst of the current economy we find ourselves in and you’ll likely be shown the key to all the napping you can stand: unemployment. But all this research aside, you can get your hands on one of these, reportedly, for $600.

The Seiko Active Matrix EPD uses an E-Ink display that makes it look really impressive, and of course there are other features here to make it stand out even more. For instance, it’s set to offer a 180-degree viewing angle, radio-controlled movement that gets its marching orders from the nearest atomic clock, and solar cells in the frame that’ll let it get juice from the sun.

Never again will you not know what time it is.

There’s no word on pricing yet, but some hope has emerged that prices will be reasonable. As to when these come out, it looks like they’ll hit shelves by the end of the year, though any release will start in Japan and make its way out from there.

The Yale Aerial Manipulator, as it’s more correctly called, has a top speed of 130 kilometers (roughly sixty-odd miles) per hour, and can carry 2 kilograms (about a pound) of weight, making it a great choice for light bomb disposal or supply drops with the military, delivering small packages or the mail, or even, as you see in this picture, flying into the kitchen to fetch beer for people who think that the distance from the couch to the fridge is some kind of insurmountable gulf.

Alternately this would be great for people who need to fetch food but have found themselves permanently attached to their sofa, or have a pit to hell itself open in the hallway.

Seriously, this is actually quite a technological feat, especially if they can up the weight capacity and add on cameras and suchlike.

It’s gas-powered, first off–it’s got a 3CC gas engine, two speed transmission, independent suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes. Basically, this little RC car has more options than some people’s actual cars.

And here’s the part that’ll really throw you–you don’t run down to the hobby shop and buy one, no sir. Or ma’am, as the case may be–you buy a series of 65 booklets for about $15 a pop that contain the parts to build the little Reventon, and then you can buy the remote for an additional $65. That brings the total price of this sucker up to around $737 dollars, and untold hours of searching and frustration.

So if you’re looking for the last word in project cars, try your hands with the littlest Lamborghini.

However, seeing how Google likes to come in and add their 2 cents to every market it’s no surprise that they would come in to the communications market and work their magic. Considering they already have the immensely popular GMail and Google Talk it would only make sense for them to combine the two into a completely new product, right?

Well, yes, and no. Just about a year ago Google opened their brand new Wave communications platform to the general public. At first, there was a lot of hype surrounding Wave as it was something we’ve never seen before essentially combining email with instant messaging, even combining elements of a Wiki, all into one.

Unfortunately, after the hype died down, consumers were clueless as to what Wave actually brought to the table and the service failed to ever catch on. Due to the poor reception, Google has announced today that they have no plans to continue developing the service as a standalone product and will instead incorporate its technologies into other services.

What this means exactly, we don’t know, but if we were to take a guess we’d say that Google would incorporate some Waveness into their GMail platform. Although, until we actually see something happen we’re just stuck guessing.

Anyone out there actually going to miss Google Wave?

The whole idea of having an iPad covered in chocolate does seem to be the “perfect gift” idea and should drive your partner crazy. Of course you would have to consider the fact that your partner is not on a diet since with all that chocolate around, someone has to eat them right?

And if you are wondering if the iPad made it through safely with the chocolate-coated packaging, the answer is yes. Well, there you have it, it’s a really cool design and would certainly grace any retro-style lounge. In fact you may even consider other rooms as Diesel also produce a range of bed covers that match the design on the table!

However, sweeten that a bit by adding some gold and platinum finish to go with a 7.2 carat single cut flawless diamond then you may as well figure out that this is one scale model made only for the filthy rich. And for an astounding 2 Million Pounds, it seems only normal to admit that only a fool would throw away that much if he is not financially capable.

But for the heavy spenders who can afford to throw millions out the window, this limited edition Bugattti Veyron scale model is bound to interest them. Especially since there will only be three of them in the world, this is one scale model wealthy collectors are bound to want.

It weighs about 7 kilograms and comes with a functioning steering, operational hoods, a certificate of authenticity, a glass house, an aluminum casing and photo documentation of the manufacturing process. The Bugatti scale model was designed by Robert Gulpen and Stuart Hughes and took 2 months to finish.

Strictly unofficially of course, these Android Pillows measure in at 12” x 12” and, according to the maker, known as Craftsquatch, are “made with the softest fleece and the fluffiest polyester filling, making (each pillow) firm yet springy”. Now I don’t know about you, but my one disappointment with the Nexus One was exactly that it wasn’t enrobed with the softest fleece and, let’s face it, neither is it firm yet springy and, if you’ve ever tried to sleep on a Nexus One, well…I’m sure you catch my drift.

The Android Pillows – which are undoubtedly de rigor for any true, discerning Android fanboy – are available from Craftsquatch’s Etsy portal and will set you back some $20 a pop.

In a departure from the brand’s bread and butter, Bluetooth device manufacturer Parrot has logically released a product that flies.  The Parrot AR.Drone is a WiFi-enabled quadricopter– a four-propeller, camera-equipped drone aircraft that can be controlled by an iPhone or iPod Touch.

The Parrot AR.Drone helicopter features WiFi remote control, two on-board video cameras and an array of stabilizing sensors and gyroscopes.  Add the ability to control the Parrot AR.Drone with your iPhone, and this becomes arguably the coolest app yet.  Shift and turn your iPhone, and the accelerometer translates these to steering controls on the AR.Drone.  The pilot can view the flight of the AR.Drone on the iPhone’s screen, either from the flight cam or the unit’s auto-pilot camera.

The Parrot AR.Drone is designed as an r/c toy, much in contrast to the CyberQuad UAV we covered back in December.  Yet this quadricopter does employ similar military-grade technology of helicopter UAVs, including wind compensation, gyroscopic balance technologies and more.  The AR.Drone is also designed to work in tandem with other AD.Drones, giving two users the ability to battle-it-out using games developed by Parrot and third party developers.

Pricing info is not yet available, nor is a concrete ship date.  Want to terrify your friends with the threat of an alien invasion?  Yeah, there’s now an app for that.

Having only today posted about a (seemingly bogus) limited edition Star Wars Wii console that appeared, then duly disappeared, from Ebay we got to thinking that, with the holiday season and Christmas looming, we really ought to offer you a heads up concerning our top ten Star Wars related gifts (for adults and children alike) – not least because, let’s face it, any Star Wars related gift is going to go down pretty reasonably, isn’t it?

iPhone apps are getting more and more niche all the  time. Dynamic Controls, a company that specializes in wheelchair control units, unveiled an iPhone app that lets wheelchair users control their electronic wheelchairs via an iPhone or iPod Touch.

Dynamic Controls unveiled the new iPhone app at the RECHARGE conference in Germany, which is a trade show for the special needs community. As you can see by the pictures above, the app displays various information like speed and heading, and allows the wheelchair user to adjust various settings on the chair, like the seating angle.

The iPhone will connect to the wheelchair via Bluetooth, IR or WiFi, or through computer mouse control. A ‘chair doctor’ feature will diagnose any problems with the wheelchair and report it to the user, as well. The app also features web access to Dynamic Controls’ website, which will feature news that appeals to wheelchair users. Remember, with the full power of an iPhone, a wheelchair user would also be free to surf other websites if they didn’t want to read about advancements in pro-grip wheelchair wheels.

Dynamic is selling an optional attachment that will secure the iPhone to the wheelchair. Dynamic’s control units will also allow for iPhones to charge off of the wheelchair’s battery. The application can be used with any existing Dynamic Controls wheelchair unit and any 3G iPhone. The iPhone app is set to be released in April of 2010.

I love Halloween. It’s the one season of the year where freaks feel normal and people can find yet another excuse to decorate their homes with piles of useless novelty crap like plastic skeletons and witches that look like they’ve smashed into a tree. Every now and then I happen across a Halloween gadget that doesn’t look like a pile of Chinese-manufactured throwaway trash and the animated moving books from BuyCostumes.com certainly fit the bill.

So what are Animated Moving Books, anyway? Well, they’re exactly what they say they are. They are a set of four books that you stick into your bookshelf among the less creepy volumes and when someone walks by them a motion-activated sensor kicks them into action. According to the website, the books slide in and out and make eerie sounds. Sounds a bit like my love life, but I digress. While they do look a tad on the fake side up close, I bet the illusion is more convincing from afar.

At last we have it. The culmination of what I’m sure were minutes of product development effort has finally led us to what can only be described as the pinnacle of USB multi-card reader design, the Enter+Ctrl Keys Card Reader from the folks at usbgeek.com. Not only does it read the cards, it looks like a couple of well-known computer keys at the same time. Pure genius.

The Enter+Ctrl Keys Card Reader from the uber-nerds at USBGeeks.com is exactly what you think it is. It’s a USB 2.0 dongle shaped like the Enter and Ctrl keys from a keyboard. You take off the Ctrl part of the unit to expose the business end of the device and you insert pretty much any type of mini-memory card into the side. From the specs on the website, the unit can handle SDHC 2.0, SD, micro SDHC, microSD/T-flash, Sony M2, Memory Stick, and MS Duo. They have thrown an “etc.” on the end so it’s my guess that it supports more than that.

Are you looking for a way to improve your telekinetic abilities while having fun at the same time? I can’t even begin to count how many times I have asked myself that very same question. Before today, you may have come across yet another product spotlight piece on yet another blog on yet another universal remote control and yawned. That was before. This is now. The Wand Company (Yes, that’s their real name) is a UK-based start-up that is seeking to capitalize on the still-growing Harry Potter craze with its latest invention, the Kymera Magic Want universal remote control. Yes, it’s a remote control, but not just any remote control. You see, this one is in the shape of a magic wand and that, my friend, has made all the difference.

The Kymer Magic Wand is basically a universal remote control that is capable of learning up to 13 different infrared (IR) codes from your existing remotes and then replaying those codes when the spellcaster (OK, I got caught up in the moment, give me a break) makes any one of 13 different gestures. Maybe because I’m a foodie or because they’re crafted so nicely, I gotta admit that I simply love those Cake Royale USB flash drives that invite you to take a bite. I know that when I go to shop for a flashlight there are two things that I really need: a full-blown replica of the lightsaber of Darth Vader and really bright red LEDs. Up until now, I had little choice in my lightsaber flashlights, so when I saw the latest geek gadget from the folks at Wesco I felt that my prayers had been answered. They have just announced the availability of the Darth Vader lightsaber LED flashlight and 40 year-old virgins all over the world are lining up to get theirs.

Wesco has modeled their new lightsaber flashlight after Darth Vader’s lightsaber. From what I have read it is complete in ever detail (with the exception of the plasma blade that slices through anything) and even sports a handy little loop so you can hang it on your belt. The Darth Vader LED flashlight is imported from the UK and features four bright red LED bulbs. When it comes to a flashlight, what the hell good are red LEDs? Maybe if you work for the crime scene investigators you can check for bodily fluids with it.

Who hasn’t felt like hooking the iPod up to an explosive device at one time or another? I know I have. Apparently, so have the guys over at IWantOneOfThose.com. It also has to rank up there as one of the most creative uses of speaker design that I have seen so far. We’ve come across any an iPhone related accessory here on TFTS, most of which have been pretty standard devices (docks, cases, portable speakers, battery packs, et al) and we’ve even come across the odd somewhat bizarre iPhone accessory (the ZGrip springs immediately to mind) and now we have this, an iPhone Stencil Kit that, in all honesty, is aimed at we’re not exactly sure who.

Yes, in the title we’ve speculated that it may be of use to developers but, all said and done, it really probably isn’t so quite who that leaves is beyond us – except for those fixated with the iPhone who cannot actually draw one especially well and need help (in so many ways).

Interestingly, however, the iPhone Stencil Kit is not actually to scale, for some obscure reason, meaning that you’ll have to settle for somewhat scaled up versions of the iPhone but it does, at least, come with a plethora of iPhone related icons meaning that you should, if you can use a stencil, churn out pretty reasonable if not rather large renditions of Apple’s phone should you want to.

Personally my gut feeling is that the iPhone Stencil Kit is of extremely limited appeal – I cannot see that many of you dropping everything in a bid to secure one – but I could be wrong. Perhaps I’m missing something. Perhaps the desire to stencil out an oversized iPhone is something that’s held dear by many. If it is, please put me out of my misery and tell me exactly why though, won’t you?

We entertain a particular penchant for the humble and decidedly yesteryear cassette tape so when we came across this beautifully retro cassette tape headphone cord tidy modelled on a C-60 and known officially as the <<REW we couldn’t possibly not offer a brief heads up here on the site.

The brainchild of designer Jason Amendolara and Fred Studio, the <<REW cassette tape headphone cord tidy, apart from looking great, comes in three colors with designs reflecting authentic stylistic elements – “Stereo sound”, “Super-Fine” and “Hi-Fi” – and work by reeling in excess headphone cabling in order to reduce tangles and the possibility of stray cabling catching on clothing and, yes, we love ‘em.

Unfortunately at this juncture it appears that these <<REW cassette tape headphone cord tidies are yet to be offered commercially but we suspect that we’ll be either seeing them hitting online portals pretty soon or, failing that, cheap knock-offs appearing in certain Chinese sites (they’re probably on the case already).

If you’re a dedicated Star Wars fan who feels the force you may like to know that you can now pre-order the Star Wars Force Trainer mind control game which, as you’d probably gathered, offers you the potential ability to lift a ball (or remote sphere, as its officially referred to) merely using the power of thought.

The Star Wars Force Trainer is billed as being capable of reading and interpreting your brainwaves courtesy of a headset that senses your brain’s beta waves and transmits information directly to the training tower and, should you be concentrating enough, you should see the ball ( sorry, remote sphere) rise with accompanying Star Wars sound effects (that’ll probably put you off, thus resulting in the ball dropping and frustration ensuing as you release that the force in you is far from strong and actually quite puny). Of course, as you train and get used to focusing your mind this could lead onto you managing to lift additional items with the power of your mind, such as cars, trains, entire buildings and…no, actually, it won’t.

Having chatted at some length to my writers here on TFTS about what is and what isn’t prime material for content here on the site – netbooks, phones, you get the picture – I’m now going to set an especially poor example by posting about this Takara Tommy Hover Q Mini RC Hovercraft which, for some reason, particularly appeals to me and the posting of which has allowed for one of the most curious post titles on the site for, well, at least a few minutes (I’m up against a couple of pros here, so I don’t fancy my chances long term).

Following up from such RC gems as the RC Housefly, the iFly Vamp RC Vampire Bat, the QFO (also from Takara Tommy and the utterly bizarre (but oh so cool) Slamjam Sparkler (alas only a concept) the Takara Tommy Hover Q Mini RC Hovercraft, which measures in at just 80 x 100 x 60mm, apart from being a great office gadget, works exactly like a real hovercraft in floating on an air cushion (no hidden wheels here) which means that not only is it ultra manoeuvrable but it should, in theory, work on water – though we are unable to actually establish whether this would be a particularly good idea.

Available in four color schemes the Takara Tommy Hover Q Mini RC Hovercraft, which offers a purported endurance of up to 3 minutes based on a 40 minute charge (4 x AA batteries) is retailing in Japan for the equivalent of $32 and I want one so much I would say it hurts – except it doesn’t, not really.

I’ve no idea if these are available outside of Japan but I’m keeping my eyes peeled.

It sure would be nice if you could annoy your fellow sports fans and scare the crap outta your best friend without having to worry about where you were going to get your next air horn refill, wouldn’t it? We’ve featured many a Lego inspired item here on TFTS in the past, from Lego brick themed iPod Speakers to Lego themed correction pens and even Lego Digital Cameras and MP3 Players and now we have these Lego themed calculators to add to our collection – though, in being strictly unofficial in nature, they’re referred to as Building Block Calculators.

Yes, in an all too transparent bid to cash in on the undying love we have for all things Lego flavoured, these Building Block Calculators are, it has to be said, pretty well realised (to the extent that one could forgive you for thinking them to be official merchandise) and we especially like how the keys are implemented as it would have been all too easy to ruin the effect by adding fairly standard buttons.

Available in four color schemes – namely black, blue, green and red – the Building Block Calculators measure in at 5.5″ x 2.5″ x 1″ and, as you’d probably gathered, offer fairly rudimentary functionality. You’ve probably seen the giant green screens that are used by Hollywood movie producers in all sorts of special effects shots. They essentially give the engineers the ability to place an actor into just about any environment without them actually having to be there in person. Not bad if you are shooting a scene on the surface of the moon. This type of movie magic was only available to the movie studios until now. Yoostar lets you bring the green screen concept into your own home so that you can put yourself into your favorite movies.

Using your PC or Mac and an available USB connection, Yoostar lets you be the star (See where they got the name, now?). The Yoostar kit contains a high-definition webcam, wireless remote, and 6×6-ft collapsible green screen. It also comes with some pretty slick software that makes the whole process a no-brainer. The software automatically takes out a character from a movie scene and drops your mug back in its place. It even gives you the scene’s lines in karaoke format so you can read along teleprompter style.

There is just something warm and comforting about hearing a crowd erupt into thunderous applause. Whether at a football game or rock concert, the result is the same. Even though it might not be for you, you can still find solace in the act of being part of this communal adoration. It’s a team thing I suppose. There really isn’t much we can say about this particular product. It is basically a wooden box that, upon opening, emits a pre-recorded sound of applause. That’s it. There are no lights, no USB ports, nothing. It’s simply a box of applause. It might not quite fit in on a blog that’s dedicated to the latest and greatest technology has to offer, but we still found it fitting, nonetheless. Maybe it’s because of the depressing world we live in or the fact that a bit of levity goes a long way. Either way, it’s a good thing.

There are certain things that will always creep me out – carnies and public restrooms among them – but I have to admit that robotic animals of any kind might be near the top of the list. I’m not sure if it’s the lifeless, piercing eyes or the rigid mechanical movements that do it. Maybe it’s just the fact that no matter how much technology you cram under the fake fur they just never seem natural. Either way, when I saw the latest creature creation from Sega Toys, the Dream Cat Venus, it sent chills up and down my spine.

The Dream Cat Venus is actually the second incarnation of a robotic cat for the Japanese firm. I guess they just hadn’t scared enough children with their first pass, the Yume Neko Smile. Complete with mottled faux fur, this replica of a Norwegian Forest Cat is supposed to be the next best thing to Fluffy. Sega actually worked with the Tohoku University’s Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer in Northern Japan during the development phase to make sure they got it just right. I suppose I can see the connection between curing cancer and robo-kitties.

The Dream Cat Venus is programmed to respond to its human counterpart in various ways depending upon the applied stimulus. Now doesn’t that sound all warm and fuzzy? Apparently, if you use a phrase like “there, there” the Venus will provide a simulated purr to show its appreciation. I wonder if it’ll short circuit around catnip?

The Dream Cat Venus also has several pre-programmed movements including laying down, paw movements and several reactions to touch. They are triggered from a number of hidden sensors and photoreceptors placed on the cats body. The battery powered pussy measures 490x240x230-mm (19.3×9.4×9.1-in) and comes with a plastic comb for grooming. Available only in Japan you can pick up the Yume Neko Dream Cat Venus on July 30^th for around $110 equivalent. Hairballs sold separately.

We’ve seen many a hoax product site but, whilst we usually pass them over, this particular one, which focuses on ‘the world’s first USB-powered chainsaw’ (otherwise known as the i.Saw) is undoubtedly worth a mention not least because of its wholly deadpan approach and its particularly well executed product page.

Powered courtesy of its integrated USB 2.0 connectivity, the PC/Mac compatible i.Saw USB chainsaw is billed as being no bigger than a standard computer keyboard whilst boasting lightweight construction resulting from an optimal blend of tough plastic and lightweight alloy and a 3/8″ saw chain offering reduced kickback and vibration.

Apparently set to commence shipping from September, the i.Saw USB chainsaw, which somehow manages to deliver an unparalleled distribution of power thanks to patent-pending technology – all from the measly 5V supplied by the universal serial bus (no small achievement) – will apparently set you back around a mere $59.95 plus shipping and can, according to the site, be pre-ordered as of now.

We admit it, we have no idea whether this is merely a spoof product whose entertainment value alone is its prima facie reason to be or whether this has been designed to stimulate a buzz in advance of some other actual product being offered but, either ways, it’s beautifully realised and, if its reason to be is indeed to stimulate a buzz (pun wholly intended), it certainly appears to be having the desired effect. Respect.

We’ve all seen the little gadgets that you can carry around that let you know when you’re near a Wi-Fi signal. They normally take the form of a small handheld device that you can fit in your pocket or put on your keychain. Not a bad idea, really. So why don’t we see too many wearable gizmos that do the same thing? Probably because they don’t seem to make much sense and most people wouldn’t be caught dead wearing them. The makers of the WiFi Cap certainly got it right when they called their latest invention “geeky” and I’m sure they won’t be winning any fashion awards anytime soon.

Marketed by ThumbsUp, the WiFi Cap is basically a ballcap that doubles as a signal-detecting device. It let’s you know that you are in the wireless zone by lighting up a little display on the front of the cap. There are several other reviews of this technology floating around out there and I have to say that they are spot on when they point out the seemingly obvious flaw of this new design. How are you supposed to see the signal if you are wearing the cap? I guess if you have a friend with you (who shouldn’t have let you put on the damn thing to begin with) they can let you know when your head starts to blink.

I know you simply can’t get enough of the wonderfully creative USB hubs that are flooding the market and that’s why I am here to bring yet another one to your attention. The Panda USB hub has to be one of the cutest and creepiest devices to enter the market since the Furbie. It is basically a 4-port USB hub in the shape of a cuddly little panda. The problem is, when you have your USB drives plugged in it takes on a post-apocolyptic amputee quality reminiscent of Cherry Darling in Tarentino’s Planet Terror. Adding to the creepy quality are its glowing blue eyes that let you know the device is powered on. There is just something so wrong about a USB-legged panda sporting Terminator eyes.

If you’ve ever thought about inventing a device that projects simulated fireworks on your walls and ceilings you probably work for Sega Toys. Because I’m pretty sure that no one ouside of the land of Hello Kitty would ever come up with such a lame idea. I won’t let the fact that I just don’t get this product stand in the way of the info. After all, that’s why I’m here.

Sega Toys announced recently that it would begin selling the Uchiage Hanabi fireworks projector. Supposedly, this thing uses 5 customizable projection lenses to beam moving fireworks onto the surface of your choice. It even has a nifty little feature that tracks the “firework” from launch to explosion so you can see the little dot of light trace up the wall before it “explodes”. It also claims that you …”can make a full fireworks show, complete with sounds, that is never rained out and can be shown year round.” I know I always get a craving for fireworks around February, so this would be perfect.

So how can you get your hands on the Uchiage Hanabi before they are sold out? If you are having trouble with excess popularity, good looks, and general coolness, and the pocket protector isn’t doing it for you, I think I have just the thing. I believe I may have stumbled upon the quintessential geek garment. This thing enables you to accomplish two things. You can harness the power of the sun to charge electronics and look like a complete idiot at the same time.

I wasn’t able to track down the source of this brilliant combination of haut couture and eco-friendly charging, but I think it’s safe to say that it was born in the land of the Great Wall. The CVFR-S09 Solar Vest combines the hideously bad look of a tan fisherman’s vest with the equally bad look of four solar panels strewn across the back. I can’t be sure what really sets this one apart from the rest. Maybe it’s the fact that anyone wearing it is almost guaranteed to remain alone. Maybe it’s the words “Solar Vest” embroidered across the back. Either way, I’m pretty sure that even Napoleon Dynamite would be embarrassed to wear this thing. This pic says it all -

This vest is equipped with four solar panels that can be used to charge your gadgets. The panels are even removable so that you can set them in the window to recharge while you’re inside. That makes it all OK, doesn’t it? The fact that someone can hold up to eight gadgets in their vest and recharge each of them – one at a time – is somehow both sad and weird. I have always wished that I could have a small, multi-colored, visor-wearing autonomous robot penguin that would meander around my desk making noises and lighting up. Am I alone here? OK, this one almost defies description and it definitely defies usefulness. Let’s put this one in the WTF file. Introducing the mydeskfriend project from Arimaz.

I am not sure what kind of company makes this type of product, but I do know that one of them is named Arimaz. Their website states that they develop and market communicating mobile robots. After researching this particular gadget, I have come to the conclusion that Arimaz develops and markets scary little interactive noisemakers for those that have given up on developing any kind of relationship with other humans. The mydeskfriend project (sounds weird on its own) has produced a product that is sure to raise more than just my eyebrows.

The tiny robo-penguin is capable of roaming around on your desk while you are working, making loud, obnoxious noises, and reacting to various pre-programmed changes in its mood with color-changing eyes. The product website shares that it has five different moods and reacts to “…voice, poking, cherishing, shaking, and more…” I hesitate to ask what the “and more” would be in this case.

If that wasn’t enough to convince you to buy one, it also has been programmed to interact with your FaceBook account. Heart be still. Apparently, the co-dependent little bugger “needs” things like food and medication, which you and your fellow anthropophobic friends can provide via the social networking site’s applications.

I have written way more than I ever thought I could about this gizmo. The Arimaz website doesn’t exactly win any awards for usability so you might need to Google a bit for more info. The rumor is that it will be available worldwide sometime in September for a cost of about $100/61GBP. Charging dock is included. Sanity is not.

We all know how satisfying it can be to watch your cat or dog chase a light around on the floor. Feeding into their innate lower brain function provides us with hours of mindless entertainment. But having to wave that little flashlight or laser pointer around can really tire you out. What’s a lazy pet owner supposed to do? Well wait no more. • Set on safe, flat surface such as table or floor, or hold in hand
• BOLT will automatically turn off after 15 minutes
• Press on/off button to turn off before 15 minutes

Manual Mode

• Press on/off button to turn on
• Press on/off button and hold for 3 seconds
• Hold in your hand & aim BOLT wherever you like to create your own laser patterns
• BOLT will automatically turn off after 15 minutes
• Press on/off button to turn off before 15 minutes
