Richard Schaeffer is the NSA official who said before the Senate’s Subcommittee on Terrorism and Homeland Security that the National Security Agency has been working closely with Microsoft to enhance Windows 7’s security guide, igniting fear that the software giant has deliberately coded a backdoor into the newly announced operating system. But given Microsoft’s announcement today, it’s all speculation, as they have “not and will not put ‘backdoors’ into Windows”.

The AT&T – Verizon war keeps on going no matter what. After today’s truth about the 3G ads, we caught wind that there’s a race for netbooks, too. If last month we found out that Big Red has announced availability for the new HP Mini 110 netbook, today AT&T has done the same announcing that they’ll add to their range of 3G mobile broadband equipped netbooks with the new Mini 110.

If earlier reports have pointed out that the new ThinkPad X100e is actually Lenovo’s first Thinkpad netbook, today we caught wind that the computer manufacturer is not going to introduce only one, but two models. Guilty for the whole thing is the new Lenovo ThinkPad Edge ultraportable, a rather powerful machine that feature sa choice of AMD and Intel processors (ranging from the AMD Turion X2 or AMD Neo to the Pentium SU4100 or the Core 2 Duo SU7300) designed for the ultra low power segment.

ASUS just announced a new notebook that supports NVIDIA’s GeForce 3D Visionand generates 3D imagery. Dubbed ASUS G51J 3D, it packs a GeForce GTX 260M graphics card with 1GB of video RAM, renders everything on a 15.6-inch 120Hz LCD screen that boasts 1366×768 pixel resolutions, and includes NVIDIA’s special 3D glasses.

ViewSonic are now rolling out their new VOT550 PC Mini which takes the form of an ultra compact PC which, thanks to its integrated Blu-ray drive and inbuilt Ethernet and WiFi connectivity would serve happily as a digital home entertainment hub – though the apparent lack of HDMI output is a somewhat curious omission.

At only 0.4-inch thick, Dell’s Adamo XPS is not only the world’s thinnest notebook but a real competitor to Apple’s MacBook Air. Officially unveiled some time ago, we know almost everything regarding specs and features of the new Adamo XPS, and have heard rumors that the stylish ultraportable is meant to ship just in time for Christmas, but without knowing any exact days. Everything until today when we caught wind that Dell is all set to deliver the laptops to their customers starting from December 22nd.

Hidden under the stylish chassis, the new R108T features 1080p high-definition video graphics card, runs on an Intel Atom N270 (1.6GHz) processors, with 1GB of memory and 160GB hard-drive.

Less than a month after hearing that the Lenovo SL series is getting some Windows 7 treatment, we caught wind that the computer manufacturer is actually working on a new model for their T Series. Showing up in a leaked document and a bunch of spy shots, the new Lenovo T410S doesn’t say much about itself except for the fact that it features a couple more USB ports and a cleaner design that includes a secondary display-mounted ThinkLight keyboard light — which some would say it’s lame, although it might help sometime!

Those who had an eye for the new Timeline 1820P multitouch tablet should know that Acer officially rolled out a new ultraportable model in Italy, today. Dubbed Acer Aspire Timeline 1820PT, the device has made its way on the company’s Australian website with an 11.6-inch convertible design, Windows 7 Home Premium to run the show, both a multitouch display and a touchpad.

Say what you will against the device but I happen to be fairly interested in Apple’s tablet despite not having actually seen it in action. Sure a tablet can’t be your main computer but if you need to have the Internet at the tips of your fingers at all times, then maybe a gadget bigger than the iPhone, capable of offering a better browsing performance while adding some extra features, is definitely welcomed.

Rumors have it that computer manufacturer ASUS is all geared and will join the 3D notebook bandwagon with two new models that will be launched early next year. First to lead the way is the 15.6-inch ASUS G51J3D followed by a 17.3-inch ASUS G72GX, with both “exuding” performance from every little joint thanks to its Intel Core i7 CPU, GeForce GTS 160M graphics, 4GB RAM memory and the two 320GB hard drives.

Although many manufacturers are expected to release ARM-based smartbooks next year, it looks like Microsoft doesn’t care and won’t bring ARM processor support for their latest OS, the new Windows 7. More to it, through the company’s corporate VP for Windows Platform Strategy, Microsoft has announced today that they’re going to continue their close cooperation with Intel and that manufacturers should shift their attention to Windows CE which supports ARM.

Asus is all set to expand its Eee PC netbook lineup with a new ultraportable device that has been confirmed for a release this December. Dubbed ASUS Eee PC 1201N, the specs haven’t been confirmed as of now but we’re certain it will feature nVidia’s ION graphics system, an Intel Atom 330 1.6 GHz processor, up to 3GB, 320GB HDD and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
