Exactly as expected, the BlackBerry Curve 8530 is now available from Verizon Wireless. The phone costs $99.99 after $100 online discount and with a new 2-year contract. In case you want to choose a 1-year agreement instead, you’ll end up paying $169.99 for the phone, after a similar $100 online discount. Naturally, the phone is available off contract too but it will cost you $359.99.

Finally we hear that Nokia is making a new move in its never-ending quest to conquer the U.S. market. We’ve seen too many Android and BlackBerry phones lately so a change is more than required. I’d very much like to see Nokia launch a successful Symbian phone although I don’t think current Symbian versions can really compete against other mobile platforms.

LG 3.5-Inch XD4 Hard Drive [Carry 1TB of Memory With You]

The LG XD4 is a 3.5″ external HDD that comes in three capacities – 500GB, 750GB, and 1TB. The portable hard disk drive market all over the world is booming, primarily because of digital gadgets and applications becoming increasingly portable and the exponential increase in the computational power of such gadgets.

The XD4 comes in a highly polished shockproof aluminum casing, there are two vents to ensure temperature control even when the drive is used for long periods. Hi-res images, documents, programs and application suites can be stored on the XD4. The HDD is 34 mm thick and features one-button backup. The backup software works on PC and can backup data on other storage applications. As of now there is no information on product pricing and availability.

Although the XD4 looks a little too big for an external HDD, one possible use that could really pick up in my opinion would be to carry entire application suites for teams of marketing personnel. For example, with its capacities it can easily take mobile CRM to the next level; particularly if automatic and regular updating of databases can be achieved.

Casio DBC32 Brings Geek Chic to Databank Watches

Looking at the models of Casio DBC32 took me back to my school days. The days when Casio’s Databank calculator watches were hot, even 25 years back digital technology was cheap, I got my digital watch (no calculator) for half a dollar. That said, these watches are a little on the expensive side.

Anyway, wonder what’s made Casio come out with these watches. The Japanese are gadget freaks and weirder the gadget more likely they are to go for it. The element of “chic”, though I can’t put my finger on it, makes these watches expensive in my opinion. (Is it the checkerboard keyboard plus the color combination?) Or it could be the number of functions packed into the watch – stopwatch, 13-language display, auto calendar, and much more.

The DBC32-1A costs $69.95, this black piece is the most expensive one in the lot. It has a 25-page databank, 8-digit calculator and 5 multi-function alarms. The battery is guaranteed to last you 10 years. The remaining 4 models are limited edition pieces meant to remind you that life is not always black and white. They cost $59 a piece. For me, any guy who can walk into office with either the orange or green model on his wrist is either a real free spirit or has no sense of what looks cool and what looks hideous.

Mobiado 105GMT Gold – Luxury Cell Phone with a Mechanical Watch

Mobiado, a Vancouver-based company, has announced the Mobiado 105GMT Gold, a product which the company considers to be a marriage between luxury watches and a luxury cell phone. Only 50 pieces, or masterpieces as the company chooses to call them, will be manufactured. The body of the phone has been crafted from sapphire, so too the keys. The company tells us that sapphire is a precious stone second only to diamond in wear resistance, makes you wonder if it’s more apt for miners rather than the rich guys it is being targeted at. The frame of the phone is made from brass and carries a 5-micron thick coating of gold – 24 carat, no less!

Here is something I thought I’d never ever say but after finding this new gadget I wish I were back at school. Yup, I bet even you’re shocked! Livescribe’s new SmartPen is set to take the world by storm and you’ll see why …

Livescribe’s SmartPen allows you to record your lectures while writing and you can access these recorded files by simply tapping on your handwritten notes. That easy!
Not only is this a beauty in the class or meeting, but thanks to its usb capability, you’re able to view and access your notes on your pc as well as search for information via keywords.

Who needs textbooks anymore with this invention? Livescribe calls it Paper Replay while this super-pen also offers 2 concept technologies knows as “Paper Translator” (an ingenious creation whereby you can translate a word or phrase by simply writing it on paper or practice your pronunciation by simply tapping on your chosen word) and “Beach Blogger” which will allow you to Write & send messages/ sounds directly from your notebook or connect directly to your blog or facebook by just using this fancy SmartPen.

Livescribe is looking to release the SmartPen within 2008 and according to rumours, should be less than $200. As the SmartPen works with something known as dot paper, Livescribe will ensure that the paper will be available at comparable prices to standard paper products … but all I care about now is “when!”

Sony DSC-T77 and Sony DSC-T700 – 2 new offerings from their digital imaging department

The Sony DSC-T77 and Sony DSC-T700 digital cameras are both set to change our preconceived ideas of digital imaging through their interesting design and impressive assortment of features and colours.

Ever since my first Sony Digital camera as a young student, I have always had a soft spot for their cybershot range and they have once again impressed my multi-coloured socks off of me! Sony has announced the addition of 2 newbies to their already impressive array of available cameras which will be available in the latter half of 2008.

The Sony DSC-T77 (approximately $300) will be a 10-megapixel camera and (to date) the thinnest camera in Sony’s collection at only 5/8 of an inch thick (approx. 1.6cm). It will also boast a 3-inch (approx. 7.5cm) wide, touch sensitive rear LCD screen for ease of use.
Other features to make you smile (for the camera) include intelligent scene recognition, smile shutter and face detection with an ISO sensitivity up to 3200.

It almost makes me dizzy thinking of the possibilities of such a camera except that the Sony DSC-T700 (approximately $400) is set to upstage this already impressive contender. The Sony DSC-T700 is more advanced and Sony compares it to a photo album in your pocket. With a built-in internal memory of 4GB there’s very little this little camera isn’t capable of and with an average storage capability of 1000 full resolution photos you can see why it’s earned its spotlight in this post.
The Sony DSC-T700 also sports an LCD touch panel but at 3.5-inches (approx. 9cm) you’re still getting more for your money than the “baby” of the 2 newbies.

Of course, my feminine side is more than happy to announce that this gorgeous piece of delicate technology will be available in an assortment of sumptuous colours.
Yippee for me … now I can get a green one to match my car

Wii controller weapon add-ons are by no means anything new – after all who could forget such ‘gems’ as the previously featured Eight Piece Wii Weapon Kit For Virtual Knights, the somewhat curious Nintendo Wii Inflatable Combat Fighting Controller Accessory Pack (supplied complete with pump) and Camy Pro’s Gear Light Sword Lightsabers – but this add-on from Joytech, known as the System Gun Blaster, is certainly up there with the best of them in offering a series of possible combinations ranging from pistols to shotguns and even machine guns (great for FPS games such as Call of Duty) using both the Wii Mote and the Nunchuk.

The System Gun Blaster comes with two separate components consisting of a grip which can be either side or bottom mounted and a stock which not only fits your Nunchuk but can be rotated allowing the Wii mote to be either top or side mounted depending on which weapon you have to hand in the game.

Thanks to this versatility, the System Gun Blaster can be easily converted on the fly to a emulate a pistol, shotgun and machine gun with the minimum of fuss as you select weapons from your in-game inventory and, notably, can be easily adapted for the left-handed amongst you.

If you’re into Wii FPS gaming this could quite possibly be the only Wii controller add-on you need and, with the Joytron System Gun Blaster retailing for a mere $13/£7/€9, its far cheaper than many of its counterparts that offer considerably less scope (a pun especially tailored for the snipers amongst you).

JVC Super Slim LT-42SL89 & LT-46SL89 1080p LCD HDTVs [World’s Thinnest HDTVs with Integrated Tuners]

JVC have officially unveiled their new 42” LT-42SL89 and 46” LT-46SL89 Full HD (1080p) ‘super slim’ LCD HDTV units which, JVC claim, are the world’s thinnest tuner-equipped LCD HDTV units in measuring in from a mere 1.5” (39mm) in thickness to 2.9” (74mm) at their thickest point at each of the panels centre.

Whilst JVC is being unusually tight-lipped concerning their new LT-42SL89 and LT-46SL89 units it is known that both come with JVC’s new slim backlight unit – billed as being 40 percent smaller in depth and bezel width compared to a conventional LCD backlight – offer 1920 x 1080 resolution and come with integrated TV tuners, 3x HDMI, S-Video and VGA ports.

JVC have not yet, however, release full specifications concerning either models but have confirmed that botht he LT-42SL89 and LT-46SL89 super slim HDTV units will become available sometime in July in the US and will retail for around $1900 and $2400 for the 42” LT-42SL89 and 46” LT-46SL89 models respectively.

We’ve featured many a TokyoFlash watch here on TFTS as we love nothing better than a modern take on wrist watch design – and if it relies on the liberal use of LEDs then that’s all for the better. That said, there is a fine line between form and function and, in that respect, we suggest that perhaps TokyoFlash’s new Geomesh watch takes things just that fraction too far in the name of originality.

The 04:02 Couples Half Watch Concept

I have never been particularly into things that fall into the ‘his and hers’ category. Perhaps it’s just me, or perhaps it’s because in so many ways my partner and I are so very different so, personally, this concept is not something that would appeal to me, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t respect where it’s coming from.

The 04:02 Couples Half Watch Concept appears to be a fairly standard digital watch, albeit with a distinctly eye-catching style, but this watch is quite different to any watch we’ve previously featured – concept or otherwise – as it’s literally designed to be torn in two.

According to the designer, Pierre Haulot, the 04:02 is ‘the first watch for two. You can share it by tearing it to make 2 functional half watches. With this irreversible act, proof of sincerity, you not only give a watch to your partner (or your nearest and dearest) but you give a part of your intimacy: your own time. As a symbol, you will share exactly the same time and show your special relationship to everybody.’

BMW Series 1 Air Camper

When I first came across the image featured here my first thought was that this was some sort of colostomy bag for BMWs.

On further reading, however, it actually transpires that it’s an inflatable living area – aka tent – that was developed for the BMW series 1 launch a couple of years ago.

Apparently designed to be inflated via a fan hooked up to the car’s cigarette lighter, this instant inflatable shelter is actually quite a neat idea that, as far as we are aware, never actually saw the light of day – perhaps on account of the fact that BMW drivers have enough problem using their indicators let alone having to work out how to inflate a tent at the back of the car.

Heat Reactive Global Warming Mug

Not a day passes without the newspapers and television talking about global warming and we certainly try to do our bit here at TFTS to minimise our emissions.

Okay, so banning baked beans from the house isn’t going to save the environment, but it’s a start.

Now, thanks to this heat reactive mug, you can be reminded every day about the implications of global warming as every time you make a hot drink the effects of global warming appear on the mug’s surface, with enormous areas of land mass suddenly disappearing underwater – and it’s actually rather disconcerting.

So if you want to broadcast your inherently eco-friendly nature as you take your tea/coffee break this mug should fit the bill nicely. Alternatively you could sell your car and begin making love to trees (but frankly, we prefer a good cup of coffee).
