Now, unless you’re a mall cop or a tourist you probably won’t ever find yourself on one of those over-hyped gadgets…ever. This could be because they spend most of their time crafting micro-displays for the likes of the military and other highly-secretive, if-you-know-too-much-I’ll-have-to-kill-you type organizations. Rescue Stick Concept [Throwable Stick With Water-Triggered Life Preserver Inside]

If you have ever attempted one of those carnival games where you have to toss the ring around the stick you know how difficult an operation that can prove to be. Imagine now trying that same thing with a life preserver from a hundred yards away with a screaming panicked person at the other end. Got the picture. When I saw this design concept from Sungjoon Kim, Jangwoon Kim, Sook-kyung Lee and Keunhwan Pack I was all for it. The Rescue Stick is basically a hand-tossed rescue device inside which resides a life preserver that is automatically deployed as soon as it hits the water. Not a bad idea. (...)

If you are up on your geek trivia, you know that back in 2005 scientists discovered the largest known dwarf planet in our solar system, later named Eris. According to Wikipedia, it’s the ninth largest direct solar-orbiting body; it’s approximately 2,500 km (1553-mi) in diameter and 27% more massive than Pluto. So it seems only fitting that designers would be inspired to create a watch that is shaped like a sphere in honor of the discovery of Eris, right? In February 2008, Nokia had launched the Morph, a concept phone designed to showcase the future of cell phones that would be developed using nanotechnology; these phones would exhibit properties such as flexibility and transparency. However, the idea still remains in the concept stage. Things have moved one step further with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology announcing that it has developed a completely transparent chip. The new technology has been termed Transparent Resistive Random Access Memory (TRRAM).

Splitview Comand From Mercedes [Two People, Same Screen, Different Programs]

The new Splitview technology from Mercedes will be made available in all vehicles of the S-Class. The Splitview Comand screen is essentially an 8″ TFT-LCD color display which allows the driver and the front seat passenger to view different programs on the same screen simultaneously. So, if the driver is viewing a GPS chart on the screen, the passenger can view his favorite film, music video, or TV channel on display. This is achieved by means of pixel display in which the image seen depends upon the angle at which one is seated. A filter masking is used to segregate the combined image created from the two images, namely of GPS and the film being viewed. A neat addition and one that must have required a fair amount of research.

But what exactly does the gadget achieve? Some comfort for the travelers, of course if men are driving both driver and passenger could end up viewing the film. Ditto for women as driver and passenger, both will arrive at the directions through mutual agreement, the need to see the GPS data may not arise at all.

The Internet is abuzz with the latest supposed offering from Apple; however a search for the product on the Apple website did not yield any results. The product in question is the Apple triBook. The Apple triBook aims to resolve the issue of screen space that traditionally is a bugbear for most users of notebooks. The triBook comes with two additional side screens in additional to the main screen; thus increasing the total screen space to 21″.
