Rumors Out Apple’s 27-Inch LED Cinema Display [Apple's Larger LED Cinema Display Would Coincide With New 12-Core Mac Pro Workstation Release]

Apple is preparing a new 27-inch LED Cinema Display to coincide with a new Mac Pro workstation release. The Apple 27-inch LED Cinema Displays will be larger than the current 24-inch LED-backlit model, Apple’s first featuring this technology.

The new Apple Cinema Display is rumored to measure 27-inches diagonally, feature LED-backlit technology and sport a 2560 x 1440 resolution. These rumors were shared from reliable sources to AppleInsider, a pretty trusty publication for Apple rumors and breaking news. The suggestions of the new display, codenamed “K59″, would hit the market in concert with new Mac Pro workstations. The new workstations themselves are rumored to feature 12-core processing, based on a pair of Intel’s Westmere-based hexacore chips.

The new 27-inch LED Cinema Display and the new Mac Pro workstations would be targeted toward imaging and multimedia professionals, those who focus on graphic design, video and/or audio production. They are likely to carry a very significant premium, yet pricing info was not included in the rumors to AppleInsider. Long-time readers know that when Apple news hits, we cover it obsessively across every detail– so stay tuned here at TFTS.

Google, Intel, Sony and Logitech are working together on a new deal that will bring Google to new HDTVs and set-top boxes. While we reported last week that Google was coming to Dish Network set-top boxes, the deal with Sony seems to be much bigger. When Google enabled-HDTVs hit the market, users will be able to run web applications from their TV.

This isn’t an entirely new concept. Various TV manufacturers have started this and Yahoo has been providing “Yahoo-connected TVs” for some time that allows Ethernet-connected HDTVs to run web apps from Twitter, Facebook, etc.

Google is working on the deal with Intel, Sony and Logitech. This info comes from a “source familiar with the situation” who spoke to the New York Times. When asked, all companies denied knowledge or declined to comment. The Times reports that these “Google TVs” would be running Android and they would let users watch web content, like YouTube or Hulu. Google TV will also include a version of the Chrome browser, so they can surf the web from their TV.

Logitech was asked to join the project because of their history with powerful universal remotes, and they’re said to be constructing a QWERTY keypad-equipped remote control for Google TV-enabled devices. One assumes that Sony would be producing the actual TV sets, while Intel could be producing the internal workings for the Google TV.

The New York Times reports that this is the beginning of Google’s attempts to get their Android footholds into different markets. They’re hoping that Google TV-enabled HDTVs will compete not only with the Yahoo Internet enabled HDTVs, but also with Roku and Boxee media center devices.

No word on when this “Google TV” project will be announced, or when we could expect to see Google TVs on shelves.

That said, the i-Got Control looks like a pretty safe bet – but I would have liked to see the company listing exactly what external equipment this device can control out of the box.

Yes, I know you can program it to (quote) ‘control virtually any device’ but virtually any isn’t all, is it? A listing of devices it cannot control, if that’s easier, would suffice.

Microsoft director Aaron Greenberg is the head of Microsoft’s Xbox Live and played a big role in designing the Xbox 360 console. He has some bold opinions about the Xbox 360’s big rival, the PlayStation 3. Greenberg says that the licensing costs of the Blu-Ray drive inside the PS3 has forced the cost of the console.

Greenberg cited the PS3’s current entry price of $300 while the Xbox 360 has one of $200. “The fact that we’re able to offer a console starting at $199 is a benefit of not being burdened with that cost. Being $100 cheaper is part of the reason why we’re nearly twice their installed base,” Greenberg told British gaming magazine Edge.

The Xbox 360 offered an add-on HD-DVD drive that enabled the console to play next-gen discs for the ill-fated format, but that was short-lived. The Xbox 360 has been criticized for a lack of next-gen disc support, from both pundits and developers. Developers don’t like the fact that they’re reaching the capacity limit on DVD9 (9GB) with some new big games (not a problem with Blu-Ray, which has a capacity of 50GB).

Greenberg says that the lack of a Blu-Ray drive is all apart of the plan for the Xbox 360 console. “For us, our bet was on digital distribution, that that was the future – the ability to do 1080p movies with no disc, no download required; we have the largest movie and TV library, the largest HD library of any console.”

There also could be some hurt feelings – Sony invented the Blu-Ray platform while Microsoft was a strong supporter of HD-DVD. Microsoft sources have been strongly denying the possibility of a Blu-Ray add-on or new Blu-Ray enabled Xbox 360 for months – and with Mr. Greenberg’s damnation of Blu-Ray, it’s almost a certainty we’ll never see a Blu-Ray drive in a Xbox 360.

The Astro A30 gaming headphones are shipping now for $149.95, with a Dolby 5.1-enabled MixAmp bundle for $229.95. These are likely far out of the price range of casual gamers, but serious gamers with a need for modular, mobile audio options may want to keep them in mind.

Not to be outdone by Hitachi, Sony Japan has unveiled three new HDTVs in their Bravia BX series of LCD TVs that sport 500GB hard drives for internal recording and content viewing. SonyInsider is reporting that these TVs are the first produced by Sony with the internal hard drives (although, I can vaguely remember Sony introducing some last year in Japan – I digress).

The BX series is sold in the US as the BX300 series, but in Japan it’ll ship as the BX30H, with the key difference being the inclusion of the internal hard drives. You’ll be able to find them in three sizes, 22-inches, 26-inches and 32-inches. They’ll come with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, CCFL backlighting and 720p HD resolution at 60hz.

It also includes some features that were previously seen on Sony’s Bravia series, including 24p True Cinema, the BRAVIA 4 Engine digital processor and BRAVIA Sync. As for sound, it’s got 5.1 surround sound and SteadySound audio stabilization. However, with most HDTVs, it’s probably coming out of some tinny-sounding 5W speakers.

You’ll be able to record from a TV Tuner directly to the 500GB HDD on the Japanese model and the UI appears to use Sony’s XMB from the PlayStation 3 (which is important as Sony has been expanding the functionality of XMB-enabled devices).

Pricing and a release date for Japan are unannounced. No word on it coming to Europe or North America, unfortunately. There seems to be a shortage of HDD-equipped HDTVs in the Western hemisphere…

Hitachi has unleashed a metric ton (or 11) of new HDTVs on the unassuming Japanese public. They’re apparently in the “Woo TV” series and the Hitachi Japan web page proudly proclaims, “Wooo New Line Up!” in English to all. While those in North America and Europe have nothing to get excited about, Hitachi’s new offerings look solid.

The first series is XP05, which is includes three Plasma HDTVs and two LCD HDTVs. They’ll all be offering full HD (1080p) for the Plasma sets and will be support the DLNA standard for digital media streaming. In addition, they’ll come with a 320GB HDD for storing content and four HDMI inputs for your HD devices. Unfortunately, the two LCD models in this range will only support 720p video, but they’ll have all the other features, including DLNA, HDMI and the hard drive. Sizes range from a 32-inch LCD up to a 50-inch Plasma, with prices going up accordingly from $1,900 to $3,650.

The next series is a bit more modest. The HP05 will offer just two TVs, a Plasma TV at 42-inches and a LCD TV at 32-inches. Both will offer a 720p resolution and will meet DLNA standards and have a nice 250GB hard drive disk for storing your media content. The 42-inch Plasma is asking $2,200 while the 32-inch LCD will set you back $1,600.

At the low-end is the H05 which could easily be great TVs for kitchens and the kids room – that sort of thing. They’re all LCD HDTVs and range in size from 19-inches to 26-inches. They’ll playback content in 720p. No internal hard drive, but they do have networking support for DLNA. Prices range from $770 to $990.

While these models will land in Japan on April 17, no word on them coming else where. Hitachi, unlike some of these Japanese manufacturers, does bring their products to America quite often.

The folks at Okoro Media Systems have been quietly making decent media center PCs for some time so it’s nice to see them get some press recognition with their new generation of MCPCs. The most notable improvement they’ve just unveiled is that they’ve unveiled modern Intel Core i3 and i5 processors to their media center PCs.

In addition to the new processors, they’ve improved the bitstreaming for Blu-ray playback. Audio playback on Blu-ray discs will now support the TrueHD and DTS-HD Master audio bitrates, which is full uncompressed HD audio. As for video, the computers will also support full 1080p video and have TV tuners to record HD TV and some network connectivity will let you steam your recorded content across your home.

Previously, Okoro’s media center PCs shipped with a minimum of a 500GB hard drive. They’ve now expanded that to 1TB and you can order their media center PCs with a maximum of a whopping 8TB. All of their new media center PCs will come with USB 3.0 ports and will ship with the 64-bit version of Windows 7.

The Okoro PCs will also be including DDR3 RAM and will offer the ability to stream music from iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches. In the more higher-end media center PCs, you can pick to have your hard drives on a 2TB SATA 3 (6Gb/s) drive. For those of you who use CableCARD, they have a quad-CableCARD tuner in all of their machines.

As you can imagine, these home theater PC’s aren’t cheap. The Okoro Quantum mini series starts at $1,295 and goes up to an incredible $5,395 for the Okoro Ultimate series. While I’m sure they’re fine media center PCs, you’ve got to consider the fact if they’re worth the money for you personally. Those with existing home theatre PCs will be pleased to know that Okoro is offering an upgrade to these new 2010 models.

American TV manufacturer Sceptre is a little-known HDTV and PC Monitor manufacturer but they’ve come up with an awesome new all-chrome LCD HDTV for those that like things shiny. In addition to looking cool and having all the amenities of a 24-inch LCD panel, it’s also good for the environment.

The Sceptre 24-inch HDTV uses 40% less electricity than the competing HDTVs of similar sizes, and it’s also Energy Star 3.0 compliant. Still, after all that I wouldn’t categorize it has a purely “green gadget” just yet. As mentioned, it comes in at 24-inches with a 16:9 widescreen ratio and has a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a contrast ratio of 4,000:1. Response time for the device comes in at just 2 ms.

For video input, it’ll take coaxial, composite, HDMI (with HDCP) and VGA. The TV tuner is compatible with most North America TV signals, and it has VESA mounts on the back for hanging one from the wall or from a Ergotron arm. An attached USB port will let you view photos on the display as well. A USB port would have been nice, but I digress.

The price is surprisingly low. Keep in mind that it’s only a 24-inch monitor, and so Sceptre is only asking $400 for the chrome-clad monitor. That’s in line with all of their other similarly sized HDTVs. It’s now shipping from their website for those interested. Now I’m sure there’s a joke here about using Google Chrome on a chrome-clad monitor – I’ll get back to you when I think of it.

After a seven year absence, the popular American digital video recorder TiVo will be returning to the United Kingdom, in a partnership with Virgin Media. TiVo first entered the England in a partnership with Sky Broadcasting in 2000, but some “corporate difficulties” led to Sky producing their own set-top recorder box. TiVo left England in 2003, but now they’re back.

TiVo, the original digital video recorder, had soaring popularity in America in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s when it was the only DVR on the proverbial block. However, most TV service providers offer their own branded DVR set-top boxes and TiVo’s popularity (and stock price) has been on a constant decline.

In order to reinvent themselves, TiVo recently introduced the “Premiere” and “Premiere XL” boxes which combine digital media set-top boxes and the familiar DVR setups that we’ve seen. Although it slipped under the radar, the Premiere series of boxes will be TiVo’s return to England. They’ll be added to Virgin Media’s offerings of pay-TV set-top boxes. As the Daily Telegraph reports, TiVo is sending a message to Sky Broadcasting by returning to England with their rivals.

The English TiVo boxes will carry “Project Canvas”, a free IPTV offering service that will provide video content from ITV, Channel 4, Five, BT, TalkTalk and (pending BBC Trust approval), the BBC. TiVo and Virgin are hoping that the combination of a strong DVR and digital media set-top box with IPTV offerings will be enough to draw consumers from Sky’s offerings.

While the TiVo boxes are set to appear in England by this holiday season, neither TiVo or Virgin confirmed pricing for the add-on TiVo service. They said that broadband internet connections would be required, but the TiVo service would be competitively priced.

ASUS has released a new surround-capable compact speaker array for use with home computer systems. The ASUS Cine5 compact surround PC speaker offers a true surround experience out of what it claims to be the world’s smallest five-channel speaker array.

The focus of the new ASUS Cine5 compact surround PC speaker is to deliver big surround sound from a small package. The output produced by the Cine5 can reach 28W and 15RMS, ranging between 80Hz and 20KHz. Its side-facing bass port uses a specially designed reflex system that boosts bass output by 15 dB, enough rumble for a solid PC media experience. ASUS claims to achieve all of this in a Cine5 speaker bar that measures in at only 373 x 100 x 100. That, according to ASUS, is the world’s smallest 5-channel speaker array.

The ASUS Cine5 connects to a computer using standard 3.5mm audio jacks allowing multi-channel audio. When the going gets private, users can plug headphones directly into the Cine5 instead of re-wiring the computer audio system or plugging directly into a tower. The big-sound, little package ASUS Cine5 does not yet have a release date or a price, but keep your eyes peeled in early spring for delivery updates.

Sony has confirmed what we already reported back last month – that being that its new 3D TV units, which are already available to pre-order via it’s Sony Style online portal, will indeed commence shipping as of June.

Of course Sony isn’t alone in the emerging 3D TV market as both Samsung and Panasonic have a range of 3D TV units that are set to hit retail before Sony’s models (Panasonic’s first 3D TVs are set to become available in the US this month with Samsung’s 3D TVs set scheduled to hit later in the US this month also, though they are already available in South Korea) but Sony’s confidence that it’ll claim a large share of the emerging 3D TV market from the outset remains wholly unshaken – with Sony expecting to sell around 25 million LCD TV units between April 2010 and March 2011, around 10% of which it expects to be 3D TVs.

Of course the Sony Playstation 3 console’s up and coming 3D capabilities will doubtless help to invigorate the market – particularly for Sony from a marketing perspective – and this is especially the case as industry insiders believe it’ll specifically be gamers that queue up to become early adopters.

PlayStation 3 lovers will definitely cherish their console even more once I tell them that Sony has secured deals with all six major studios to bring HD movies to the PS3. That’s great news especially since Sony is the only console that can brag with such a performance. Those of you that own an Xbox 360 from Microsoft or a Wii from Nintedo will have to wait a while until the same HD titles come to them from their favorite console.

Of course you’d have to love movies also in order to get excited by Sony’s announcement, otherwise the fact that your PS3 can let you rent or buy various HD titles from Fox, Disney, Paramount, Universal, Warner and Sony will not mean much to you.

The PlayStation Network will offer HD movies for purchase and rental in the USA and here’s what Peter Dille, senior vice president, marketing and PlayStation Network, SCEA said about Sony’s initiative:

Securing high definition content from these studios is another significant milestone further validating PlayStation Network as a complete entertainment network in the home. PlayStation Network is the first and only service to deliver high definition home entertainment from all six major studios, directly to consumers for download. PlayStation Network continues to offer the most comprehensive catalogue of HD movies to PlayStation Network members that realize the wide-ranging entertainment power of the PS3 system.

Unfortunately these HD movies will only be available to U.S. PS3 console owners but Sony plans to offer the service in UK, France, Germany and Spain soon.

Here are some of the hot movies coming in HD to the PlayStation Network in the near and very near future:

20th Century Fox – “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian”, “Jennifer’s Body” and “Fantastic Mr. Fox” (on March 23)
Walt Disney Pictures – Disney Pixar’s “Up”, Jerry Bruckheimer’s “G-Force” and Disney’s “Earth”

ASUS just released their new HDP-R3 O!Play Media Center set-top box in Italy last month, but that didn’t stop them from having a new one on display at the CeBIT trade show in Germany last week. The new device carries the name EM0501 and is in ASUS’ EeeMedia line of products.

The new EeeMedia box will be running on a Samsung ARM processor that will be clocked at 800MHz. It will have 512MB of RAM and will have an open 2.5-inch HDD bay for your own expansion. Thankfully, the box is capable of full HD 1080p output, which is pretty impressive.

Networking can be done either WiFi b/g/n or wired Ethernet. No word on what AV connectors it will have, but as SlashGear speculates, expect at least HDMI since the low-end O!Play devices have that, and maybe a few other outputs, too. For file formats, the EeeMedia box will support H.264, WMV, MPEG4, HDV, DivX, XviD, AVI, MOV, MKV and a few other video formats. It’ll also play back audio and a plentiful amount of image formats.

The EeeMedia box will also support web surfing, right from your couch on the TV. Unfortunately, details are scarce on how this will be done. We’ve seen some companies include QWERTY remotes with these types of products, or ASUS might expect you to supply your own keyboard. ASUS is said to be going to provide an IR-based “multimedia remote control” to help navigate the Media Center box and the internet.

Nothing on pricing or a release date, yet.

If any of you guys are interested in Samsung’s e-reader lineup, we have news that the company has officially announced their new Samsung E6 reader is to debut on Barnes & Noble, sometime this Spring. Although we can’t say the E6 is the best we’ve seen (in honesty we’d go for the Nook instead), the fact that Samsung slashed the rumored $399 price tag we heard of during CES 2010, to $299, makes it a bit more interesting.

“We are very excited to be entering the explosive eReader market with a device that brings the best of a traditional reading experience into the digital age,” said Reid Sullivan, Senior Vice President at Samsung Electronics America. “Samsung prides itself on identifying and fulfilling unmet consumer needs through innovation, and the eReader is emblematic of that approach. We are partnering with the best in the business to offer access to an extensive array of content, and have developed innovative features and technologies designed to make reading that content as personal and intimate an experience as reading a hard copy book has always been.”

For those out of the know, the new Samsung E6 e-reader can read e-pub, PDF/a, TXT, bmp and jpg file formats which are being displayed on a 6-inch E-ink display with 8-Gray scale for easy readability both indoors and out, and a 600 by 800 pixel resolution.

It comes with built-in front speakers and a headphone jack to plug it whenever you need some privacy, features the company’s text-to-speech (TTS) technology that will read text aloud. Other specs include Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) connectivity

On top of that there is a built-in MP3 player for your favorite audio content, and 2GB of storage space (expandable by 16GB via a microSD card) for you to store up to 1,500 books or 24,000 pages of memo.

Designer Anton Weichselbraun has introduced a new guitar concept that ditches the strings and opts instead for a touch sensitive neck design. The DiGuitar by Anton Weichselbraun uses this next gen input system to control a range of common guitars using MIDI and guitar/amp modeling software.

Like most MIDI instruments, the DiGuitar by Anton Weichselbraun captures a range of control data from the frets and digital pickups. This data is then used to control any guitar and amp combination the user desires, using the guitar modeling system of their choice. DiGuitar captures this data using a touch-controlled neck, which locates the guitarists fingers to determine individual note information.

While most guitarists would not be comfortable giving up the feel of the strings and their vibrations beneath their fingertips, DiGuitar is designed to make things more comfortable. With DiGuitars neck is a range of piezo-electric actuators which create vibrations in tune with the note the guitarist is playing. When you’re finger is on the fretboard, you will feel the note you are playing thanks to this technology.

Anton Weichselbraun’s DiGuitar concept will not be arriving any time soon, as it is presently only in conceptual stages. While many guitar purists may scoff at the idea, many guitarists in the next generation just might find this to be a comfortable, powerful modeling guitar for their rig.

Since 3D TVs are all the rage in 2010, home theater management devices will need to upgrade accordingly to handle the new video protocols and 3D experience. Onkyo has entered the fray with a new device, the first of its kind of earn a THX certification. There’s really not much we can add to the video below (it very much speaks for itself – and superbly so) except to say that Tron Legacy, which is set to hit the US in 3D on December 21^st – so you have some time to ramp up those anticipation levels – stars Michael Sheen, Jeff Bridges and the (utterly brilliant) John Hurt and, yes, it’s going to be big (and a film that any true geek won’t want to miss).

I guess we are not that surprised to see Google move to the next big thing, are we? And what bigger thing than TV is there? After all we keep watching TV even when there’s nothing really on worth watching.

Google has a more than fair share of the search market when it comes to computers so the Mountain View based company is looking for TV search now. Thanks to its Android platform that goal might just be achievable especially since Google is working with Dish Network on the matter.

The two companies planned to bring Google Search capabilities to as many living rooms in the USA as possible but the whole Google Search TV project is still in testing.. The set-top box that’s being used will be based on Android so in case you’re familiar with Google’s smartphone OS then you should have no problem Googling for stuff from your couch. The whole system comes with a full QWERTY remote, the missing link in other words, that will let you type anything you’d want to look for straight on the big screen TV.

You will be able to search through Dish content and other Google services like YouTube and more. But if you ask me whenever I do watch TV I wouldn’t want to keep browsing for stuff and go to Google for answers. I have my computer to do that. And soon people will have iPads and iPads-like tablets close by which will be able to instantly connect to the web for getting you those fast search results you’re looking for while you’re watching TV.

Google and Dish Network have been working together about a year now, at least that’s what the Wall Street Journal is saying. Neither Google nor Dish Network commented on the future of their collaboration so we might not see Google Search for TV evolve past the testing phase, which can be discontinued at any time later on. But what say you folks? Are you interested in set-top boxes running Android and waiting to deliver Google Search results to you? Or would you rather let the TV does what it can do best, simply broadcast clutter-free shows?

Sony have officially announced a new set of stylish PC headphones that include the Sony DR-350USB, the DR-320DPV and the DR-31DPV. Meant for gamers, Skypers or music listeners, the most interesting models of the three are the ones pictured below that connect to your computer via USB, have 30mm driver units and a multi-directional microphone arm that allows you to mute whenever you want, making them ideal for gaming. The DR-350USB comes in black, gold and red.

On the other hand, the Sony DR-320DPV are similar with the DR-350USB as they feature adjustable headband and foam earpads, connect via the audio socket and have volume control instead of the mute function. The DR-320DPV comes in gold, blue, red and black.

Last but not least, the lower-end Sony DR-310DP are available in pink, white, silver and green, and given its slender band it’s a fact that they’re aimed at dudettes. Along with a separate volume control, the DR-310DP come with a microphone located into the headphones.

The new Sony DR-350USB, the DR-320DPV and the DR-31DPV headphones will be available this April, but at this moment we have absolutely no clue how much they’ll cost. We’ll keep you posted though.

While you might be using your iPhone and iPod Touch for other things, FLIPR could help you make them a great back up remote for when you can’t find the one that came with your favorite device, or replace them entirely if you find that to be more convent. It will be up to the user the justify the cost and decide if FLIPR is something viable for them.

The DSP Group is intent on changing the way we see home phones (which are, on the whole, pretty dull) and, in so doing, have unveiled their DSP Multimedia Handset which comes with a 3.5” touchscreen with virtual keyboard, packs WiFi connectivity and, most interestingly, runs with Android.

Billed as being the next evolution in home phones thanks to offering ‘an affordable smart phone experience to home subscribers’, the DSP Multimedia Handset – which comes with an ARM based 240MHz processor under the hood– not only serves as a high spec DECT phone but can also be used as a universal remote control, a device for home automation and monitoring, a storage manager (which means it can store things) and, yes, it’ll also happily function as a VoIP handset (thanks to native VoIP support).

“Highly portable, built on an open platform, and easily personalized, the DSP Group-designed multimedia handset is based on the Company’s innovative XpandR™ II, a comprehensive system-on-a-chip solution that integrates Wi-Fi and DECT. There’s no word as to either pricing or any scheduled release date but its safe to say that home phones are just about to get interesting again (and that’s been a while coming).

Think this little gizmo would make a great addition to your pool? Well you’re right, but It is also well adapted for a nice soak in the tub.

Music Planet is already available on Idea Label’s Japanese website for $120. If you live somewhere other than Japan you will have to try either Japan Trend Shop, Geek Stuff 4 U or Rinkya. This mini portable waterproof music device may be a little hard to come by, but it is likely that not many other people you know will have one. Plus, it makes a great conversation piece and eye catcher when out in your backyard floating in the pool with you and your friends.

At this year’s CeBIT tradeshow in Hannover, Germany, Acer are trying to get people’s attention not only with netbooks and laptops, but also with a new product in their ultra-portable projector lineup. Dubbed Acer K11, this little pico-projector only measures 122 by 116mm and can be hidden in your jacket’s pocket.

Other than looking sleek, the new Acer K11 pico-projector features a built-in USB, SD card readers and one HDMI port that allows you stream HD content from your computer. Another interesting thing is that it comes with DLP technology (Digital Light Processing) with LED tech, that makes the lamp good for about 20,000 hours.

Capable to project content up to 2.54 m across the diagonal in both widescreen (16:9) and standard (4:3) format images, the new Acer K11 is said to offer 200 ANSI Lumens of brightness and a 2000:1 contrast ratio. On top of that it comes with the company’s InstantPack tech that allows you to unplug the cord right after you turn the projector off without fearing it could bork.

For now there’s nothing official confirming price and availability, but word is it’s going to cost more than the K10 which retails at some $550. Make the K11 affordable and make it capable to project 1080p quality, and I’ll be in line for one guys …

Sony may be giving up on OLED TVs for now, but LG Electronics isn’t. LG is planning to release their upcoming 15EL9500 OLED HDTV to the European market in May, with a North American release later in “the summer”. OLED technology is praised as the “next-generation” of flat-panel technology but it’s difficult to produce in large screens and expensive.

Sony was among the first to begin offering OLED HDTVs but after the expensive units sold poorly in their homeland of Japan, Sony pulled them from the Japanese market with the Sony OLEDs expected to be removed from North America and Europe soon.

LG is pressing on with their own OLED TV. The 15EL9500 will be a very thin new display. At only 15-inches, it can’t exactly take pride of place in your living room, but it could make for a nice kitchen television or something similar.

In addition to its thickness (measures only 3mm-thick), it also has a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and an impressive 0.001ms response time. It will support 720p HD resolutions (but keep in mind that OLED screens have a very crisp image) and we know it will have HDMI and digital audio out.

As said in the title, the MSRP for this OLED HDTV is a steep €1,999 ($2,713). Here’s a picture of the HDTV from the side.

You could also just as easily store this in your car’s glove compartment or tuck this away in a carry on bag with your cables, mp3 players and headphones all in one spot so you can easily set up whenever the need to be a DJ god arrives.

The deck features a basic black and white design and includes a simplistic two-channel mixing deck, cross fader and volume controls. You can also plug in your headphones, for a more private DJ experience or play sound out through the internal speaker for all to hear. The mini mixer connects via to the headphone jack of your iPod or any standard 1/8^th headphone jack available on most mp3 players.

Mixer comes with two short audio cables for necessary connectivity and pair of white earbuds. Besides being able to fade from between players with the slider you can also preview the next song on your playlist with a separate volume- controlled headphone jack.

Right now the Lecci Mini Mixer is available at both Think Geek and Amazon for $24.99, which is a relatively small party investment. The Mixing Deck does not come with a long audio cable to connect to larger speakers, so you will have to supply that on your own, also it takes four AAA batteries (which are also not included). All in all, a very fun device for anyone who loves music and has ever aspired to be a DJ. It’s a great way to spice up an office party or create your own private club scene at home. Also please note, parental supervision is not included.

Brickhouse Security has released a new LED flashlight that includes a built-in video recorder capable of shooting night vision video. The Flashlight Hidden Camcorder with Nightvision will be useful in the field, for home surveillance and other less-savory applications.

The new Flashlight Hidden Camcorder features an array of eight bright LEDs that surround a 2.0MP camera capable of 640 x 480 video and 1600 x 1200 photographs. Inside, the unit includes a 5-hour rechargeable Li-ion battery, a microphone for audio capture and support for micro SD cards up to 8GB, enough for 20 hours of video.

The unit is small and unassuming, able to fit entirely in the palm of your hand. This suggests that this flashlight hidden cam isn’t built for the field, more so for surveillance with the flashlight features being primarily for show. We could imagine getting more use out of this in the field than around the home, as it’d be nice to have a camera in the woods when something wicked this way comes.

The likely intended purpose of the flashlight hidden camcorder with nightvision is home surveillance and spy cam uses. It could be useful to keep an eye on the babysitter or the maid, but more likely that this camera will be used for less-savory recordings.

One very important but very important mobile gadget inside one’s home has always been the remote control. It has too many buttons and by the time you get the hang of it you either lose it or replace your TV altogether. And there are plenty of other gadgets that come with remotes controls, because nowadays almost everything out there can be remotely controlled.

So maybe what we need to do in order to improve our whole TV watching experience is get a universal remote which will work with most TV sets out there. Logitech has gone ahead and launched a couple of new remotes, the Harmony 600 and the Harmony 650.

Said remotes come with a screen, the Harmony 600 has a black and white one while the Harmony 650 has a full colored display. Although to be honest I’d rather worry about the action on the television instead of checking the screen from time to time to make sure I’m pressing the right buttons.

From a different point of view though, the remotes will be able to control other devices in your home hence the requirement of a screen in the middle of all those buttons. Logitech says that any of the two models will replace up to five other remotes so it’s definitely worth considering buying one of them. The Harmony 600 will cost around $79.99 while the Harmony 650 will cost $99.99.

And Logitech has also announced a new gadget for our notebooks, the Logitech Laptop Speaker Z205, a clip-on USB device that will work with most netbooks and laptops out there. The device is definitely worth checking out if you want to upgrade your laptop’s sound capabilities while on the go. The gadget will be available in the U.S. and Europe later this month for just $39.99. Are you buying it?

Skype has been trying to expand its business model before its upcoming IPO stock offering. In January, at CES, they announced that they were bringing their peer-to-peer VOIP calling technology to internet-equipped HDTVs from LG and Panasonic. Now, Samsung has joined the fun, as Skype will be featured on their new HDTVs, too.

This partnership between Samsung and Skype has apparently been going on for sometime, but was just made official last week. Not all new Samsung HDTVs will come with this Skype connectivity – only ones in the LED 7000 and 8000 series will have this feature (for the time being). The Skype connectivity will be branded under Samsung’s InternetTV@service which is their lingo for an Internet-connected TV.

Users are forced to purchase a Skype Freetalk TV webcam from the Skype Store if they care to use video chat. Skype hasn’t announced pricing yet, but the conventional regular (non-TV) version of their Freetalk camera is currently selling for $19.

No word why Skype would force you to use this, the service should let you use any cheap $10 webcam you want, but one supposes they’re trying to make a few dollars on the deal. Even the Skype Store lists the Freetalk series of webcams as “Standard Quality” not “High Quality”.

Whatever the case, once Samsung HDTV owners have been setup with their Gestapo-approved Skype Freetalk TV webcam, they can begin using Skype from the comfort of the sofa – all of Skype’s controls can be access through the TV’s menus by using the remote controls.

The TV-based Skype service will have all the features of the regular desktop Skype, including free in-Skype calling as well as SkypeIn and SkypeOut paid calls to real-life phones. The aforementioned video chat is also included

For those who’d like to own a projector capable to output 3D visuals, Acer have announced two new models, the new Acer H5360 and the X1261. Featuring NVIDIA’s 3D Vision, the new projectors are built with entertainment in mind, rather than business.

Starting with the Acer H5360, we’re hearing it gets 720p HD video output in 16:9 aspect ratio and has a 2,500 lumens brightness, while the Acer X1261 delivers XGA resolution with a native 4:3 aspect ratio, and keeping the brightness. Connectivity wise, the big difference is that the H5360 has an HDMI port, three RCA jacks, component video, S-video mini DIN, a 2.5mm audio mini-jack and a PC input, while the X1261 loses HDMI for composite video, component video, S-video mini DIN and a stereo mini jack.

The new Acer H5360 and X1261 projectors are on sale now for $699 AND $579 respectively, but you’ll have to remember that for an “immersive” stereoscopic 3D home theater experience, you’ll also need a PC running Windows Vista or Windows 7, along with a compatible NVIDIA graphics card and a pair of 3D glasses, that cost extra.

Not really into the iPad or the stylish Notion Ink Adam, then there’s a plethora of tech companies coming up with slate-style tablets. One of them, Mio would like a piece of the pie as the company has just introduced their new Mio Moov V780. A 7-inch touchscreen tablet, the Moov V780 boasts an 800 x 600 pixel resolution, built-in GPS navigation, a web browser and support for Adobe Flash.

While not the most groundbreaking tablet we’ve seen in a while, the new Mio Moov V780 has a 600MHz processor under the hood, it plays HD 720p video, comes with support for exchange email, has built-in music and photo browsers (and a YouTube feature). Other specs include 4GB or 8GB of storage expandable via a microSDHC card slot, a digital tuner for the lucky users in Europe, Japan and Korea, and 802.11g WiFi and optional 3G or WiMAX connectivity.

On top of that it comes with an HDMI port that allows you to connect it to your HDTV or HD monitor for direct playback.

No word when the new Mio Moov V780 tablet will start selling or for how much, but we’ll update you as soon as we have more details.

Pioneer has released a new pair of AV receivers that integrate with Apple mobile products for wireless audio streaming and wired control of the Pioneer units. The Pioneer VSK-820-K and VSK-520-K AV receivers have been feature-optimized to the iPhone, iPod and iPad products, as well as any A2DP device.

The new Pioneer VSK-820-K and VSK-520-K AV Receivers will connect with Apple mobile devices in two ways. First, they can receive music streamed wirelessly from an iPod, iPad or iPhone via a Bluetooth connection, giving users the ability to use their mobile library as a sound source. Second, via a wired USB connection, the new Pioneer AV receivers can be fully controlled by an iPhone or other device. Beyond the Apple-optimized functionality, the new Pioneer receivers feature HDMI 1.4 connectivity and 110W of power across 5 surround channels. The new LCD displays by Infocus are available in 42-, 55- and 65-inch models that each offer native 1080p resolution (as well as 1920×1200 resolution from a computer source).
