Spotify Desktop App For Mac & Windows Gets An Update

Spotify users may want to check out the latest version of the desktop software, which has been both announced and released as of this morning. The new versions of the desktop software come with some new features and are available for those using a Windows or Mac computer.

That being said, those looking to get these latest features can either sit back and wait for their software to update and ask to restart or head to the Spotify website (linked at the bottom of this post) and manually download the latest. Anyway, it seems that there is a handful of new goodies, however two of which seem to stand out a bit more — gapless playback and crossfading. Breaking each of these down a bit further, beginning with the gapless playback and we have the following;

“Gapless playback lets the tracks flow seamlessly, one to the next, without any silence between. Perfect for classical music, live recordings and concept albums.”

And moving over to the crossfading, this one comes as a “much-requested feature” and will allow the user to fade out one song as another begins — sounds perfect for those looking to DJ a party using Spotify.

Also, just to clarify these two — the gapless playback will be turned on by default and the crossfade will be switched off by default. Needless to say, either can be adjusted by heading to the preferences. Lastly, the remaining new features include the following goodies;

• Improved Subscribe, Buddy List and Favourites options
• Drag & drop fixed on Windows
• ‘Hide purchase buttons’ option (Premium-users only)
