Samsung Rugby Smart Announced For AT&T

Samsung Officially Announces The AT&T Compatible Rugby Smart, Will Be Available Beginning On March 4th

We have seen some rumors dealing with the Samsung Rugby Smart lately, and well, it looks like Samsung and AT&T have officially ended those. Yup, the Samsung Rugby Smart has officially been announced for AT&T. And nicely done, the handset will be available fairly soon and with a fairly low price point.

Getting right in with the good stuff — the Samsung Rugby Smart will be available beginning on March 4th and it will come priced at $99.99. Of course, that is a $99.99 along with a two-year agreement. And almost as one would suspect with a handset named Rugby — this one will arrive with a rugged exterior design.

More specifically, the Samsung Rugby Smart will be certified for Mil-STD 810F military spec standards which means it will be protected agains Dust, Humidity, Rain, Shock and Temperature. Further details on this mention how the handset will be able to handle the elements with water resistance up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes as well as extreme temperatures.

Otherwise, the Samsung Rugby Smart will have support for the AT&T HSPA+ network and brings goodies to include Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.7 inch WVGA Super AMOLED touchscreen display and 4GB of internal storage. The remaining features include the following;

  • 1.3 megapixel front facing camera
  • 5 megapixel rear facing with auto-focus, flash and 720p HD video recording
  • microSD card slot with support for cards up to 32GB in size
  • Battery: 1650 mAh LiIon Poly
  • Talk Time: Up to 8 hours
  • Standby Time: Up to 16 days
  • Dimensions: 122.4mm x 65.9mm x 12.19mm
  • Weight: 4.2 oz

Bottom line here, this is certainly not the highest spec’d device that we have seen announced lately, however with a $99.99 price point and some relatively decent specs — this should make a nice option for someone looking for an Android handset with some durability. After all, some people regularly take their handsets out in the wild for things like running, hiking and biking.
