NuForce Unveils Its Air DAC System
NuForce is not a name we hear much from. Nor do we hear much about music streaming systems. But if you want to put a lot of music into a lot of different rooms without wires and from one central location, then you’ll want to have a look at NuForce’s new Air DAC system, which our friends out at the Max Borges Agency tipped us off about.

The NuForce Air DAC system, basically, works as both a wireless transmitter and a radio receiver that works in the 2.4 GHz radio band, allowing you to hook your various music devices to it (they’ve got provisions made for both Apple and computer USB devices) and transmit the feed from said devices throw the transmitter into your choice of up to four receivers, thus allowing you to fire music literally all over your house and outside. Since it’s neither wi-fi nor internet-based, you won’t need to set up a router or IP addresses or the like, making setup surprisingly easy.
There is a bit of a downside here, and it’s one of transmission range. If you’re using the PC solution, the uTX system as it’s called, you’ll get between 15 and 30 meters of range. The Apple version, the iTX, meanwhile, only offers up ten to 20 meters of range.
Plus, as is so often the case, the Apple version is a bit more expensive, with the uTX version selling at $179 (that’s for the receiver and one transmitter–the transmitters separately are $59, and the receivers are $149 each), and the iTX version stepping that up to $199 (again, receiver and one transmitter–while the receivers are also $149, the transmitters are an extra $20 over the uTX version). As for availability, the uTX version is available now, but the iTX version is coming March 15th, at last report.

If you’re a big music listener and you’d rather not bother with headphones, or with turning up the volume in one room sufficient to hear what you want to hear in another room, then you’ll likely find the NuForce Air DAC the kind of system you need to keep your music going. I’d say it’s a bit much of a niche product, though, to make it a really good value for most.
But what do you guys think here? Figure that the Air DAC is a great idea? Or will NuForce be going after a rather small market for not much return? No matter what you think, the comments section is ready and waiting, so tell us what’s on your mind!
