Metroid Available On Japan's 3DS eShop Next Week
Slowly but surely, the retro NES games that were made available to 3DS Ambassadors last year are beginning to show up on the 3DS eShop. First came Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda, and now Nintendo is gearing up to release the NES classic Metroid on the 3DS eShop as well. Of course, those who aren’t 3DS Ambassadors will have to actually pay for Metroid, so head past the break to find out how much it will set you back.

Metroid will be available on Japan’s eShop on February 29th (next Wednesday) and will cost players ¥500. That’s roughly six American dollars, which seems like a pretty small price to pay to get the Metroid game that started it all on your 3DS. There’s no word on when Metroid will be available on the North American or European eShops yet, but considering Super Mario Bros. was available in other regions shortly after it released on the Japanese eShop, don’t expect to be left waiting for very long. Of course, The Legend of Zelda has yet to release on eShops outside of Japan, so it may be a while before Metroid makes the trip as well.
Also unknown is whether or not the GBA Ambassador titles will be made available through the eShop at some point in the future. Nintendo has already said in the past that the NES titles will all be put up on the eShop eventually, but so far, Nintendo has simply stated that it doesn’t have any plans to make the GBA titles available for purchase.

To be completely honest, I’d prefer to see the GBA games go up on the eShop as well, since I’ve played most of the NES games to death already. Then again, I can see why 3DS Ambassadors would take issue with Nintendo putting all 20 Ambassador titles up on the eShop, so it makes sense that Nintendo would want to keep something exclusive to them.
What do you think? Are you going to buy Metroid when it finally makes it way outside of Japan? Do you think Nintendo will eventually put those GBA games up on the eShop?
