Box For Android Updated, Brings Several New Features Including A Free 50GB Upgrade

Box.net Android App Updated; Latest Includes New UI For Android 4.0, Bulk Uploads, Additional Language Support & More

We have seen quite a few 50GB offers coming from Box.net over the past few months. Of course, those have usually been limited to specific devices. For example, Box gave 50GB of cloud storage to HP TouchPad users and also to Sony Ericsson and LG Android users. And well, the good news has arrived for all Android users today.

Today is your day to claim your 50GB of free cloud based storage. Well, a bit more accurately, this month is your month to claim your 50GB of free cloud based storage. The offer is valid until March 23, 2012 and open for all Android users running version 1.6.0 (the latest release) of the Box.net app.

That being said, those looking to claim the storage must have the latest build of Box for Android. Those with the app already installed can simply upgrade. Those who have yet to get into Box, you can download the app from most Android app markets including the Android Market, Amazon App Store, Nook Store, Verizon Store and LG World. Anyway, once you have the latest version of the app installed, simply login and enjoy your newfound storage space.

In terms of the update, this one arrives as version 1.6.0, measures in as a 5.8M file size and requires Android 2.2 Froyo or later for use. The changes and new features include the following;

  • Localized language support in French, Italian, German and Spanish
  • The ability to view and add comments to individual Box files and invite a teammate to a folder
  • Improved uploading experience for saving content to Box, including batch uploading multiple files from an SD card and in-app progress notifications
  • Overhauled user interface that leverages the sleek Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) design, including a new Action Bar on phones and tablets

And lastly, for those wondering, that 50GB of cloud storage will be yours (for free) for the lifetime of your Box account.
