Barnes & Noble Makes It Official; Unveils The $199 Nook Tablet, Also Drops The Price Of The Nook Color

Barnes & Noble Officially Announce The Newest Nook; An 8GB Nook Tablet With A $199 Price Tag

Coming as a nice bit of confirmation to the recent rumors, Barnes & Noble has officially announced the new lower priced Nook Tablet. Of course, the lower price will come due to some changes in terms of the internal storage. In addition, there was also a bit of good news for those who had been considering the purchase of a Nook Color.

Bottom line here, Barnes & Noble has announced the 8GB Nook Tablet which is going to be available as of today and priced at $199. Barnes & Noble notes this as being a “tremendous value” however we cannot help but think that it puts the Nook Tablet on par with the price of the Kindle Fire. And sure, Barnes & Noble made that price cut happen by offering a model with 8GB of internal storage as opposed to 16GB of internal storage, but going back to the Kindle Fire comparison — they now have equal amounts of internal storage. And in fact, the Nook Tablet still has a slight leg up in that it has a microSD card slot to add some additional storage space.

And just to clarify the storage on the 8GB Nook Tablet, according to the details provided by Barnes & Noble, it arrives with “5GB for content, of which 1GB is reserved for NOOK Store content.” The remaining specs for the Nook Tablet include a 7-inch (1024 x 600) VividView touchscreen, 512MB RAM, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, a weight of 14.1 ounces and a battery life of up to 11.5 hours for reading or up to 9 hours of video watching.

Next up, the new lower price of the Nook Color. This one comes as a simple price drop. Effective immediately, the Nook Color will be priced at $169. And for those who like to keep track, that brings a price drop of $30, having gone from $199.
