Windows Phone Tango Screenshots Leaked

Microsoft Upcoming WP Tango Update to Offer New Features Including Support for Mid-Ranged Devices

This isn’t the first time we see leaked details about Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Phone 7.6 Tango mobile operating system update, and since we’re getting closer to this year’s edition of the Barcelona-based Mobile World Congress we definitely expect to see more official features for both Tango and Apollo in the following weeks.

Today we learn that Microsoft’s upcoming Tango update will come with support for mid-ranged features including 256MB of RAM and 3-megapixel cameras, which means OEMs will be able to create cheaper Windows Phone smartphones, that will probably appeal to more and more customers. In other words, Microsoft is getting ready to get more mobile market share just like Google does it, by supporting a plethora of devices, from high-end to low-end – or fragmentation, an Android characteristic so many people choose to still deny.

Considering the new minimum hardware requirements that Tango brings, WP users will soon find apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace which will come with specific warnings in case they will require additional memory to work on entry-level to mid-ranged devices.

In addition to new hardware requirements, the Tango update will also offer a bunch of new features including support for exporting contacts to the SIM cards, domestic and international roaming management, multiple attachments in MMS messages, support for video messages and a native voice recording app for MMS messages. While these features have already been leaked, actual release dates for the Tango update are not available at this time.

Microsoft should demo all these new features, and hopefully more, in just a few weeks in Spain, at the MWC. At the same time, in addition to Tango, we expect the company to share more details about the upcoming Apollo update, also an important update in the future of the Windows Phone mobile platform. In the mean time let’s hear it from smartphone buyers, are you getting a Windows Phone this year?
