Darksiders 2 Release Date Announced

THQ has been in panic mode for quite a while now. Not long after the failure of the uDraw Tablet – a peripheral for Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii that THQ sunk a lot of money into – the publisher received a stock delisting warning from NASDAQ, which said it had 30 days to get its stock trading above a dollar once more and keep it there for 10 consecutive days or risk being removed from the stock exchange altogether.

It doesn’t matter how inept at business and finance you think you are, everyone knows that a delisting warning from NASDAQ is not good. With nervous investors looking to THQ CEO Brian Farrell to pull the company out of this rut, THQ quickly announced plans to stop publishing licensed games for children and focus on its core franchises instead.

One of these core franchises is the Darksiders series, and when THQ issued its less-than-stellar financial report a couple of weeks back, it made a point of announcing that Darksiders 2 will be released in June. Today, THQ gave us a specific release date for title, saying that it will be available on June 26th.

But that wasn’t the only Darksiders 2 announcement made today. THQ also revealed that Darksiders 2 will have – surprise! – retailer exclusive pre-order bonuses. Pre-order at Gamestop and you’ll get the “Death Rides” DLC, which is a pack that features some extra sidequests. Purchases at Best Buy will include the “Angel of Death” pack, which includes some new armor and unique scythes. Finally, going through Amazon will net you the “Deathly Despair” DLC, and that will give a permanent speed boost to Death’s horse Despair.

After the first Darksiders, I’m pretty excited for Darksiders 2, though I could do without all of this retailer-exclusive content that will undoubtedly be sold as DLC later on down the road.
