Apple Time Capsules In Increasingly Short Supply

Recent Discoveries Show That Delivery Times On Apple Time Capsules Are Growing Longer, Much Like With Apple TV Units

Considering that it was only a couple days ago we brought word that the Apple TV set top boxes were becoming something of a vanishing breed, it’s a pretty big surprise to discover that, once again, another item is proving to be a tough find. This time it’s the Time Capsule, and what’s even stranger is that there are plenty of possible explanations for why it’s gone missing.

The biggest indicator that something’s up here is that shipping times are increasing across a wide variety of Apple Store online locations across several different countries. Best Buy and Amazon alike, meanwhile, are reporting that the devices are out of stock, and ship times for any version at Apple Store locations are ranging from one to three weeks, depending on the storage size you’re looking to get your hands on.

As toward causes, the most likely problem here is simply an issue of supply. Time Capsules are very much dependent on internal hard drives, and as most of the hard drive market has been socked in the gut by the flooding in Thailand, this likely has more than a little to do with it. Prices have also gone up significantly in the wake of such flooding. Though it’s hard not to take a step back and realize that it’s not just the Time Capsules that have recently–and suddenly–gone comparatively missing.

While some wondered if the Apple TV system was going to get an updating out at the upcoming Apple event we’ve heard so much about of late, the same likely can’t be said of the Time Machines, as they’re really not due for updating. Still though, stranger things have happened, so seeing revamped Time Machines along with revamped Apple TV systems and a new iPad out at the Apple event is a possibility, albeit a remote one.

So what do you guys think here? Is the Time Capsule shortage a function of supply issues? Or does Apple have something new and interesting up its sleeve for the upcoming launch of the new Apple line? No matter what you think, head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think!
