PBS' iOS Apps Tip Off Next Documentary
We’ve seen a lot out of PBS lately, and with good reason. Between the Ken Burns documentary that got its debut on the iPad, and the Steve Jobs documentary, PBS is rapidly becoming the tech documentary’s best friend. And now, thanks to a little judicious word from their iOS apps, we’ve seen the next such target for their documentary leanings.

PBS will be putting out a new documentary dubbed Clinton just in time for Presidents’ Day in the United States. And while this itself is news, it’s not the kind we particularly care about until the iOS side of things kicks in. You’ll be able to watch the first hour-long installment of the four-hour documentary free on PBS’ various iOS installments, and they’ll offer up said streaming at no charge to you.
PBS’ online streaming capabilities offer up a whole lot of streaming power, with fully 250 hours of video available gratis, a schedule, and the ability to sync said schedule through iCal in order to give you viewing reminders so you’ll never miss something you want to watch on PBS.

Frankly, it’s hard not to be impressed with PBS’ wholesale devotion to streaming video and getting iOS involved in the picture. In this case, not only will they run the documentary on PBS proper over two days, they’ll put it up on the website simultaneously, so catching it on television will be of minimal concern if you want to see this one yourself. Love to see them getting involved like this, as it gives me plenty of hope for future streaming video development. The problem, naturally, will be making sure that bandwidth available can keep up with the panoply of streaming video options out there in the first place.
But what do you guys think here? Anyone going to catch Clintons on PBS proper? Will you wait for the streaming? And what device will you use to watch? All these and many more questions–including some I haven’t even thought of yet!–are waiting for you to answer down in the comments section below.
