YouMail Announces Custom Caller ID, Complete With Names & Pictures
It looks like YouMail has taken things to the next level with Caller ID and is now offering the ability to let users customize what information is being displayed — including the ability to upload a picture or company logo.

That being said, those interested in doing so will need to surf on over to www.who.youmail.com to get going. Once there you will be presented with the option to either look up a phone number or enter your own. Of course, the obvious is there in that you can search any phone number and see what sort of information is available. And just as a tip, this seems to be a decent way to search and check for further information for any unknown numbers that may have called you.
This new website has come from caller demand. Any YouMail user can “publish” information about any phone number into a public directory used by the service — and this helps the Visual Voicemail Plus and WhoAreYou apps provide valuable caller ID information on over 200 million different numbers, and YouMail’s services are already doing over 2 billion searches per month that utilize this information.
Otherwise, getting back to the main point here — customizing your own number. Once you enter your number on the who.youmail.com website you will see the option to “update my number” which when clicked on will get you started. From that point you will either need to have an account with WhoAreYou or YouMail or have your number verified by having them text you a PIN number.
And for those taking the PIN number approach and using a service such as Google Voice (where you will not get that text message) — rest assured in knowing that there is another alternative. From here, make the ‘effort’ to have the PIN text sent and then when it does not arrive you can take the dial-in approach where you call a number and get verified that way.
Anyway, once verified your Caller ID customization can include updating your name, adding in a picture or company logo, correcting any location information and even other items such as a business title. The customizations can be done by filing out a form or by connecting your Facebook account.
With that, while all of this sounds great we should point out that the information you add (or change) is only going to reflect and be available for those “in the YouMail network.” Well, that last sentence is true with the exception of people who visit the who.youmail.com site directly and perform a lookup. Of course, with YouMail touting over 2 million users that is not a small group of potential viewers.
