Unlocked iPhones Now Supported by T-Mobile
T-Mobile is not officially carrying the iPhone, but the company did say in the past that there are over 1 million unlocked iPhone devices using its network. And that’s despite the fact the iPhone does not come with support for T-Mobile’s 3G network, and therefore unlocked units will only enjoy 2G data speeds.

T-Mobile has said more than once that it wants to carry the iPhone, and it almost confirmed recently that it will offer the sixth-generation iPhone to its customers, a device that’s expected to come with 3G support for T-Mobile’s wireless network. While we wait for Apple to confirm that T-Mobile will also get the iPhone at some point in the near future, the carrier is getting ready to offer customer support to all iPhone users on its network.
Unlocking the iPhone, although frown upon by Apple, is a legal procedure, just like jailbreaking and rooting a device, but that doesn’t mean all carriers would be as easily convinced to offer support for a device that was not purchased from their stores. But T-Mobile is apparently interested in making an exception for a popular device like the iPhone.

TMoNews has learned from a leaked T-Mobile document that starting with January 30, or next Monday, T-Mobile iPhone users will be able to get customer support from the carrier. The document confirms once again that there are over 1 million users with unlocked iPhones on the network, which should also convince Apple that there are plenty of T-Mobile subscribers that would buy a T-Mobile iPhone should it become available. In the mean time here’s what unlocked iPhone owners can expect from T-Mobile:
This support will include common procedures, information about feature and specifications, and other basic device questions.
The iPhone space in the Community will be updated to mirror the look and feel of T-Mobile supported device pages and will include integrated Scope of Support.
