Insomniac CEO: We’re Done With Resistance, But The Franchise Will Continue [Sony & Nihilistic Software Will Pick Up The Resistance Series Now That Insomniac Is Moving On]
When Insomiac revealed that it won’t be making more Resistance titles yesterday, it set a lot of longtime Resistance players off speculating. The most prevalent question undoubtedly was “Well, what’s going to happen to the Resistance series?” Now that we know that Insomniac is leaving the Resistance series behind, many are wondering if Sony will continue the franchise, or if it will kill the franchise off after Resistance: Burning Skies launches on PS Vita this summer.

Insomniac CEO Tim Price has taken to YouTube to answer these questions, saying in a video message to fans that even though Insomniac is done with the series, Sony and Burning Skies developer Nihilistic Software plan to continue producing Resistance games:
A question we’ve gotten through our forums and emails is ‘Why?’ Well, we believe that Resistance has reached its logical conclusion, in terms of the story we wanted to tell. However, that doesn’t mean the Resistance franchise isn’t continuing. It’s already in the capable hands of Nihilistic, and with Sony’s shepherding we know it will continue to live on and expand. We’re excited, as fanboys, to see where it goes.
Price then thanked fans for sticking with the series from the original Resistance through Resistance 3, and said that he hopes these fans will follow Insomniac as it dips its toes into the multiplatform pool with Overstrike.
So, it seems that the Resistance series will live on, but is that what fans want? Surely there are some out there that love Resistance and want to see Sony continue the series, but there appears to be just as many that were hoping that Sony would lay the franchise to rest rather than milking it. I can see their concerns, but it isn’t all that bad. For instance, 343 Industries seems to be doing pretty well with the Halo franchise after Bungie’s departure, so maybe Nihilistic can make Resistance games that are just as good as – or even better than – Insomniac’s titles.
We’ll just have to wait to see where Sony takes the Resistance franchise now that Insomniac has moved on. Do you have faith that Nihilistic will be able to deliver quality Resistance titles, or do you think that Sony will just release a bunch of mediocre games?
