Amazon.de Lists June Release Date For Guild Wars 2

Guild Wars 2 is probably the most anticipated upcoming MMO, and now that fans know it will definitely be launching sometime this year, excitement has skyrocketed. Unfortunately for those anxious fans, ArenaNet and NCSoft are keeping its actual release date under wraps, but the game’s listing on Amazon.de – which just started taking pre-orders for Guild Wars 2 – may provide some insight on when it will launch.

According to the listing, Guild Wars 2 has a release date of June 30th, 2012. That date seems to mesh pretty well with the betas that ArenaNet has planned for the MMO, with Founder Mike O’Brien saying earlier this week that more betas are scheduled for February, March, and April.

Of course, taking this listing as proof that Guild Wars 2 is launching at the end of June is a foolish thing to do, as online retailers like Amazon frequently use placeholder dates when they begin taking pre-orders. Given that ArenaNet is planning to continue open betas through April, it seems that Guild Wars 2 has a better chance of launching sometime in July, August, or September, but until we get official word from either ArenaNet or NCSoft, this is all pure speculation.

Speaking of NCSoft, Massively got in touch with the publisher to ask if there was any truth to the listing. As expected, NCSoft didn’t have that much to talk about, saying that there isn’t a set date yet and there likely won’t be one until the feedback from all of the betas has been received. Still, we can assume that Guild Wars 2 will probably release sometime in the late summer/early autumn area thanks to the planned beta dates – that is, provided everything goes smoothly and ArenaNet doesn’t need to overhaul anything after the betas have closed.
