MWC 2012: Samsung Galaxy S III Not Coming to Spanish Mobile Show?

New Reports Suggest Samsung Will Not Announce Next Flagship Handset February, Is the Company Looking For Product Hype & Store Line?

Various reports based on a tech blogger’s inside information suggested yesterday that the Samsung Galaxy S III, the next flagship Android smartphone from Samsung, will be launched in April after being officially announced at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona next month. Its predecessor, the Galaxy S II, was unveiled during the same event in 2011, so we were all expecting Samsung to show us the next hot device in just a few weeks.

As it turns out, the Galaxy S III will not be available at MWC 2012, as Samsung apparently plans to officially announce it and launch it at a latter date. The South Korean giant will hold a special Galaxy S III event later this year, reportedly “before summer”, with the phone expected to hit stores in the months thereafter.

Word on the street is that Samsung does not to wait as long to launch the handset in the USA as it did with the Galaxy S II last year. The company is yet to confirm any of these details, but we’ll remark that it’s very peculiar to hear that Samsung decided to postpone the launch of the Galaxy S III right after Apple reported a new record quarter during which it sold around 62 million iPhone units, with more than half of those, over 37 million, being iPhones.

As I said a few days ago while showing you the “Samsunged” TV ad that took various hits at Apple’s iPhones and the lines people are willing to wait in to buy the device, the iPhone maker “Appled” Samsung as it managed to sell a spectacular number of smartphones in the Christmas quarter. That’s even more impressive since the company sold only three models, the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S, compared to the plethora of Android handsets Samsung has to offer.

Does Samsung want more hype around its iPhone- & iPad-like Android products? Is the company interested in seeing people wait in line for its smartphones. Then yes, it should manage to somehow build expectation for the Galaxy S III, although that won’t really happen, will it, since the device will be leaked well ahead its official announcement and subsequent launch. Anyone interested in the Galaxy S III or are you buying an iPhone?
