LG Optimus LTE Clears One Million Units Sold
LG is not a name that springs immediately to mind when one thinks of smartphones. There are likely several brands ahead of LG in the running like Samsung, and of course, Apple. But the LG Optimus LTE has recently posted some very impressive sales numbers indeed, recently clearing the seven figure mark in total sales. But will one big seller be enough to keep LG in the hunt?

Considering that the LG Optimus LTE was only introduced to the market back in October, it’s not exactly a small feat to see that it’s passed the million sales mark already. In fact, word is that the LG Optimus LTE’s sales were so good that they shored up the entire company’s balance sheet for the fourth quarter of 2011 and provided some terrific profit figures. And it’s no mean feat, either, to say that they have the most popular LTE smartphone in South Korea, which is the case as better than half of that million was sold there, fully 600,000 at last report.
And even better, these are certainly numbers sufficient to let LG hold its place as the third largest smartphone maker worldwide, especially with its favored status in South Korea. But it’s not near enough to touch second place Samsung, let alone the ongoing juggernaut that is Apple. And it’s enough to make you wonder if LG will be able to carry on dealing in cell phones.

Such a stance is probably a bit alarmist; there’s no reason number three can’t continue to be number three, and considering we’re already hearing reports of the next Olympus, complete with 3D capability, there may be some continued good fortune in LG’s immediate future. But LG’s got something of a tough row to hoe, especially given that there’s a whole new iPhone on tap in the near future, plus whatever Samsung brings to bear. LG’s current lineup doesn’t look so good in the face of a quad-core future, and we’ll need to hear a lot more about more powerful LG hardware to keep pace with what’s coming.
But what do you guys think here? Figure LG’s got the hardware to keep up the fight and hold its number three ranking through 2012? Or do you figure that LG’s going to find themselves further behind the eight ball this year? No matter what you think, head on down to the comments section and let’s talk LG!
