LG CX2 Gets A Leak With Images & Specs

Exciting bit of news today as a set of new photos, said to be of the LG CX 2–otherwise known as the Optimus 3D 2–emerge, along with a set of specs said to be for the device. As these are early leaks, you’ll want to get a grain of salt handy in whatever size you deem sufficient, but if the leak bears out into the release, then there could be another piece of Android phone coming our way that might hold interest. The question is, will it be enough to distinguish it from the horde of other Android-based products that are already out there?

We’d just heard about the X3 from LG only a couple days ago, with the caveat that this would likely be making its way to the upcoming Mobile World Congress show with a full set of details. That’s likely also to be the case with the LG CX 2, but the early word on this one ought to be sufficient to get everybody’s hackles up ahead of the big show.

The CX 2 looks to offer up a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, eight gigs of onboard storage, a pair of five megapixel cameras to get that 3D effect, a 4.3 inch WVGA display, NFC and DLNA support, and Gingerbread for an operating system. For those who think this sounds a lot like its predecessor, the Optimus 3D, you’d be right; the processor is stepped up a notch from a one GHz dual-core, and the display is said to be a brighter version though the same in terms of size and resolution. About the only other difference is that the CX 2 will be substantially thinner than its predecessor, measuring a mere .39 inches, as opposed to the .47 inches of the original, seen in a pic above.

Current word suggests that this one will hit this spring, and thus, likely get its debut out at the Mobile World Congress show just like the X3, but as to the opening question, I find myself hard pressed to determine how this one will be able to distinguish itself from the wide array of Android devices already on the market, especially given that the CX2 really isn’t that far removed from the original.
