LG X3 Quad-Core Smartphone Makes A Brief Debut

LG's X3 Smartphone Gets Some Early Spec Details, With No Word As Yet On Release Dates & Pricing

The word of the day, as far as smartphones are going lately, seems to be “quad-core”, and the folks at LG are looking to get their hand in with the LG X3, a piece of hardware that’s looking pretty potent indeed. We’ve got some early word about the specs on this one, and they go a long way to make this one look like it’s going to give the upcoming crop of phones a real run for its money.

Not only will the LG X3, according to reports, manage to land one of those sweet Nvidia Tegra 3 processors–also known as the Kal-El–but it will also be working with a 4.7 inch display showing at a 1280 x 720 resolution, Android 4.0 (otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich if you prefer the sugary name) to start with (as in no over the air update required), an eight megapixel camera facing the front and a rear-facing 1.3 megapixel camera for your videoconferencing and self-portraiture needs, 16 gigs of onboard storage, wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a 2000 mAh battery with NFC support. And it’s all inside a casing that’s a meager 9mm thick.

While we don’t have anything firm as yet on release dates and pricing for the LG X3, we do know it will likely make its big official premiere out at the Mobile World Congress show next month, and chances are pretty good that this will make itsĀ  market release sometime this summer.

And based on the specs we’ve seen so far, this one looks like it might be a match for most of what’s coming out this year. It’s not likely to distinguish itself too far, being as much of what we’ve heard on tap for 2012 so far suggests that most devices will be boasting some kind of quad-core processors. Still though, a surfeit of choices is always good for consumers.

But what do you guys think about the LG X3? Figure that it’s going to be a nice piece of hardware? Will it be able to distinguish itself sufficiently against the wide array of quad-core devices it will almost certainly have to compete with in the not too distant future? No matter what you think about the LG X3, head on down to the comments section and tell us all about it!
