CyanogenMod 9 Music App Now Available For Android 4.0

CM9 Music Player App Now Available For Download; Brings Features To Include Gesture Support, Motion-Based Controls & Will Run On Devices With Android 4.0 (Or Later)

It looks like one users hobby of learning Java has turned into a fully baked and now officially released app. That app is the CyanogenMod 9 Music Player app which has recently been released for any and all that want to check it out.

That being said, while the app is available for anyone and everyone — the device compatibility is going to limit who will be able to actually install it just yet. You see, the CyanogenMod 9 Music Player app has come available only for those running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Of course, while that may disappoint some, it was noted that a version for older versions of Android is in the works.

That little bit aside though, lets focus on the good here — the app itself. As you can see from the above and below images, the app is sporting a nice overall design and layout. But perhaps a bit nicer, the app is rather feature rich. Some of the highlights of the app include;

  • Gesture support including the ability to fling up to control your music and then long press for Party Shuffle or your Queue.
  • The ability to purchase a track that you are listening to from the Android Market with “the push of a button.”
  • Social media track sharing.
  • Set your favorite song as your ringtone.
  • Delete unwanted tracks.
  • Search your music from anywhere within the app.
  • Rich and custom notifications.
  • Drag and drop queue playlist.
  • Custom lockscreen.
  • Native Shake and Flip actions

Bottom line here, while all these features sound good it was noted that the “Music app is all about customization.” In other words, its all about making it your own. This will come in the form of a Music Theme Template which can be customized based on your needs. The default comes as a “Google Music” theme that is said to have been based on the latest Google Music app. Further points on the theme include the following;

“The theme engine is thoroughly customizable, allowing designers to touch every UI element in the app. Every drawable (images, backgrounds, etc), all text views, and each seek bars can be themed using the theme engine. I’ve had a lot fun using it and I’m excited to see what everyone will bring to the table.”
