HP VantagePoint Provides Touch Screen Measured In Feet [HP's VantagePoint System Offers Massive Touch Screen Capability At Amazing Resolution]

Sometimes, it’s hard to be surprised when you write about technology. Another big screen here, another fast computer there…and then something comes along that makes you remember how easy it is to be caught off guard, and today, that something is HP’s VantagePoint touch screen system, offering up a touch screen you can measure in feet.

What you’re looking at in the pic above, and can get a slightly better though less comprehensive look at in the pic below, is HP’s VantagePoint system. It’s comprised of fully six LD4730G Ultra Micro Bezel displays, measuring in at a hefty 47 inch diagonal. Each. That yields a total display measuring 11 by 7 feet.

Meanwhile, it’s got two PCs powering it, with an HP Pavilion Slimline devoted to the audio processing (yes, just the audio processing!), and an HP Z800 workstation handling the rest. The whole thing is covered over in a layer of Gorilla Glass, and produces a display measuring in at 4098 by 1536 resolution.

Naturally, HP is offering this up as an educational tool, or a collaborative business machine, and with good reason. But there’s also room for fun here, as it turns out that the device will accept cable or satellite television, as well as streaming content, as well as content from a variety of peripherals like Blu-ray players and DVD players. I’m going to take just one happy moment here to think about Skyrim running on this thing…oh, that’s sweet. But I clearly digress.

Pricing and release dates on this one are sadly still blank, but at last report, just one of those displays sold for $1300, so you can pretty much count on this one in the low five figures range. Still though, get some speakers on that monster and you’re talking about a home theater display to rival most any projector outside of IMAX.

So what do you guys think here? Will this catch on as a home theater device to rival most any display known? Or will it pretty much stay limited to the business and educational uses for which it was more clearly intended? No matter what you think, head on down to the comments section below and tell us what you think of HP’s new VantagePoint system!

I wondered much the same thing, and I’m thinking it’d be amazing. The characters would be almost life-sized.
