CES 2012: Origin PC Gets Substantial Overclocking, New Laptop Version

If Origin PC's Genesis Desktop Didn't Already Have A High Enough Clock Speed For You, Brace Yourself For The Still Faster Speeds You Craved

It’s been three days now and the news is still pouring out of CES 2012 like water out of a busted dam. Our friends out at the Max Borges Agency are aiding and abetting this tsunami of news by dropping us loads of tips, and the latest one comes out about their upcoming Origin PC. The big news here is two-fold: one, they’ve upped the clock speed once again on the Origin PC desktop version–the Genesis’s–processors, and two, they’ve also got a whole new version in laptop waiting in the wings.

Origin PC’s Genesis desktop already had a pretty hot clock speed when they started, kicking things off at a brisk 5.2 GHz. But now, thanks to an improvement in cooling system technology, they’ll be upgrading that clock speed all the way up to 5.7 GHz, which will imbue the included Intel Core i7 2700K processor with that impressive new speed. And they’ll even be including built-in temperature displays and adjustable cooling controls so you can turn up the frosty when you need it most. Of course, it’s not all processor, as it will also include the X79 motherboard, Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 video cards with three gigs of RAM each, and plenty of customization options from there on all the important miscellany that goes into a system.

But unexpectedly, there’s also a form factor change too, with a whole new laptop version emerging. Basically, it’s much the same as Origin’s earlier laptops, but with the addition of a new top panel that looks very much like the old Decepticon insignia from the eighties Transformer series (wonder if Hasbro will be going in on that one?) but doesn’t seem to be offering much new in the way of cooling technology, or other technology either for that matter.

Origin is staying mum, as yet, on pricing and release dates, but considering that the lowest price I could find on a Genesis PC started at $1089, I don’t figure you’re going to land one of these for under four figures when they do emerge.

So what do you guys think of these? Impressive new designs got you interested? Or are you doing just fine with your current PC of choice? No matter what you think, head on down to the comments section and tell us all about it!
