CES 2012: Acer Iconia Tab A700 Makes a (Brief) Appearance

Acer is gearing up to unveil its latest gadgets at CES this week. Along with ultrabooks, the company is also confirming the Iconia Tab A700, wich features a quad-core processor and high-definition display.

We earlier got a sneak peek of Acer’s upcoming 10-inch tablet, dubbed the Iconia Tab A700, from sources in Europe.In a pre-CES press event, Acer gave a brief teaser introducing their upcoming tablet, although no exact specifications have been officially disclosed yet — not even the name. From previous revelations, the tablet does look like the expected Iconia Tab A700.

Acer’s Campbell Kan held up the tablet at the end of the press briefing, and revealed a couple tidbits of information about the tablet. First, it will have a quad-core processor. Second, it will feature a 1080p display. No further word on the tablet was given, though, aside from “Isn’t it cool?” before the presenter took the tablet away from excited eyes. We surely agree, although we’ll know for sure once Acer does a full-blown confirmation of its tablet. For now, earlier quoted specs might suffice:

• 1.3 GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor
• 1GB RAM
• 10.1 inch display with 1920×1200 pixel resolution
• microSD slot
• SIM card slot
• Micro USB port
• Micro HDMI port
• Bluetooth 3.0
• WiFi A/B/G/N
• 5-megapixel rear-facing camera
• 10-hour video playback

Although not confirmed, sources say the Acer Iconia Tab A700 will run a customized Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich build. Perhaps the highlight of the upcoming tablet is its 1080p video capability, which Mr. Kan showcased during the press event. And with the tablet being an Acer, it’s likely to come with an attractive price tag. We’ll know for sure in the coming week, as Acer and other brands announce and demonstrate their latest products at CES.
