Samsung's ChatON Messaging App Now Available For The iPhone

Samsung originally unveiled their ChatON mobile messaging app/service back in late-August. And at that time it was noted that ChatON would be coming available for a variety of mobile operating systems to include the Bada OS and BlackBerry as well as Android and iOS.

And well, the service originally launched for the Bada OS devices and then came available for Android back in mid-October. At that time Samsung also noted that the iOS and BlackBerry versions were still in the works and set to arrive soon. Needless to say, it looks like the definition of soon happens to be almost three months in this case.

But timing aside, Samsung has officially launched the ChatON app for iOS. The app is available in the iOS App Store and is both free to download and free to use. In terms of compatibility, this one will run on the iPhone and iPod touch as well as the iPad. And on that note, we should clarify that while it will run on all three devices, it is not a universal app. Also worth noting, Samsung’s ChatON app requires iOS 4.2 or later.

With those basic details out of the way, lets get into what the app can do. According to Samsung, they are describing this as follows;

“ChatON is a Global Mobile Communication Service that enables you to have better relationships with your buddies or groups.”

In short, it is a cross platform messaging service. Think iMessage or BBM Messenger, but take that and expand it to work on multiple mobile operating systems. Otherwise, the key features of the app come as follows;

• ChatON supports multi platforms and devices. Users can chat freely through ChatON. Currently, ChatON supports iOS, Android, Bada, Samsung Feature and will support Blackberry, Window mobile, web soon.
• ChatON provides multi ways to make your communication richer. 1:1 Chat, Group Chat, Broadcast, Drawing Message, Picture, Video, Voice, Location, Contact, Calendar.
• Using ChatON, create your own unique drawing message by hand drawing etc.
• ChatON provides group management feature for easy group chat
• ChatON provides Interaction rank which informs you how often you chat with your buddies.
• For every chat room, you can easily see all sent images and videos in a Trunk.
