Apple iMac Represents One Third Of Entire All In One PC Sales

iMac Has Surprisingly Large Market Share In The All In One Market, Beats Out Some Very Big Names

Now here’s a bit of a surprise to perk up your afternoon with: turns out that, as far as the all in one PC market goes, there are a whole lot of competitors. But currently occupying one third of the entire all in one PC market is a surprising source: the Apple iMac.

Most of the time, when you think Apple, thoughts turn most immediately to iOS gear, or the various MacBooks. But the post-PC era that Steve Jobs often liked to mention doesn’t seem to be here yet, and it doesn’t even seem to be touching Apple. Turns out, in 2010, around 14.5 million all in one PCs were sold, and almost one in every three of them (32.9 percent, reportedly) was an iMac, which was better, singly, than either Lenovo (who was reportedly very close to Apple’s figure) or HP, who could only drum up about 21.4 percent of the market on its own. And considering that mobile Mac products, like the MacBook line, comprise roughly 74 percent of Apple’s total sales, this is no mean feat.

How long Apple can hold that position, meanwhile, is a subject for debate. Remember that these are 2010 numbers (since 2011 only ended four days ago it’s a little early to compile the specs on last year just yet), the desktop PC market in general has seen some weakening of late, and Lenovo’s numbers are almost identical to Apple’s, so Apple may not hold onto that top spot for very long. Plus, though they may hold the top spot, it’s likely that the market in general will weaken around them, dropping Apple down. And there’s word that both Lenovo and HP have some new all in one designs in store in the not too distant future, so Apple’s success here may be short lived.

But what do you guys think about this one? Think that Apple can hold its rank as the top seller in the all in one PC market? Or do you think that Apple will soon find itself swamped by a variety of other products emerging? Or will the growing line of portable computers–laptops, tablets and the like–send demand for the entire market segment into a tailspin?
