Potential New Image Of The Nikon D4 Shows Up
It was only a couple weeks ago–okay, maybe two and a half weeks ago, give or take–that we spotted what may have been partial specs for the Nikon D4 camera, an impressively powered chunk of hardware that was going to do some pretty awesome things to your photos, and some much less savory things to your wallet. But now, photos have emerged that are said to be of the D4, and the interesting thing is, they look a lot like the D3S.

The folks over at The Verge managed to lay hands on a photo of what is said to be the Nikon D4, and even went so far as to put it up alongside a pic of the D3S just to back things up. And indeed, based on these shots, the D4 is looking a whole lot like its predecessor. But if the spec list that we’ve already heard about holds true, it won’t matter how the thing looks because people will probably be falling all over themselves to lay hands on it, especially the professionals.
The earlier specs we’d heard on the D4 have this set to offer up a 16.2 megapixel sensor, an 11 frame per second burst mode, support for CompactFlash XOD memory cards, an Ethernet port, a variety of tweaks to the autofocus system and, just to top things off, an ISO range between 100 and 204,800, thanks to a user-selectable expansion option that provides double the maximum ISO built in.

The question that remains, of course, is just how much these will cost. Hopefully we’ll get some more information out of these little wonders once they make landfall at the CES show in just a few days here, but if the specs hold and they look like that, they’ll be pretty impressive indeed.
But what do you guys think here? Figure that the looks of the D4 aren’t anywhere near as important as what’s under the hood? Or do you think that this looks too much like its predecessor to really be taken seriously? No matter what you think, the comments section awaits for you to weigh in directly below!

Considering the Sony A77 is comparing favorably to the D3X for a lot less cash. The new Full Frame from Sony (A99?) may be a real show stopper in the Pro category. Rumored to be two models, 24mp and 36mp at a lower price than the current A900.
Thanks for the extra perspective, Ed–I figured this one could be some pretty impressive hardware myself when it finally comes out.
