Sega Announces Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 [Sega Says Sonic 4: Episode 2 Will Arrive Next Year, Features Metal Sonic & Tails]
It’s been a long time coming, but Sega finally announced Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 today, and even gave us a little teaser trailer to boot. You’d be forgiven if you had forgotten about the series, because admittedly it isn’t much of a series yet. After the release of Sonic 4: Episode 1 last year, the hype surrounding it died down quickly and Sega stopped talking about it for quite some time, only to begin giving us new information just a couple of months ago.

That’s when Sega said that Episode 2 was definitely happening, it just wanted to get Sonic Generations on the books before it shifted attention back to Sonic 4. Now that Sonic Generations has released and people love it, Sega can go back to the Sonic 4 series, with Sega digital brand manager Ken Balough stopping by GameSpot to dish some details on what fans can expected in Episode 2.
Metal Sonic will be the main antagonist in Episode 2, and Tales will be appearing to help Sonic in his adventures. With the appearance of these two characters, we can draw some parallels between Sonic 4: Episode 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on the Sega Genesis, and you won’t hear many complaints about that.
Balough says that Sega is using a brand new graphics engine and a brand new physics engine in Episode 2, which should do something to please gamers who whined endlessly about how Episode 1‘s physics “weren’t Sonic.” Balough also announced the planned platforms for Episode 2, saying that the game will be released on Xbox Live, PSN, Android, iOS, and Windows Phone 7 sometime next year.
While I’m glad that Sega is finally releasing another episode in the Sonic 4 series, I also wish they would ride the Sonic Generations train a little longer. Sonic Generations was a great game – brilliant when you compare it to many other games in Sonic’s history – and now that Sega has finally gotten it right, I’m very excited to see what other full games they start putting out.
What about you? Are you excited for Sonic the Hedgehog: Episode 2, or has it been too long since Episode 1 for you to get stoked? Leave us a comment below and keep checking back here – we’ll have a solid release date for you once Sega announces it!
