Samsung Galaxy S & Galaxy Tab Now Tipped To Get A “Value Pack” [Latest Samsung Galaxy S & Galaxy Tab Upgrade Rumors Suggest Both Devices Will Get A "Value Pack" Update As Opposed To A Full Android 4.0 ICS Installation]

It looks like we have gotten another chapter in the saga as to whether the original Galaxy Tab tablet and the Galaxy S smartphones will be getting an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich. And sadly, while on the positive side, this may not be the news that users were hoping for.

That being said, a brief recap for those who may have missed the earlier chapters. First, back just before Christmas, Samsung came forward with the official word that the Galaxy S smartphone and original 7 inch Galaxy Tab tablet was not going to get Ice Cream Sandwich. That news was a bit of a disappointment, however one could argue that it was not all that surprising.

From there, Samsung then backtracked a little bit (arguably due to the backlash they received from angry users) and said that they would reconsider the options. That last bit came just after Christmas. And now, coming another day later and it looks like we may have the answer. Of course, while the answer is not yet a resounding ‘no’ it is also probably not what users are going to want to hear.

The latest details suggest that Samsung will be giving both devices a “Value Pack” update. And yes, that “Value Pack” update will be as opposed to a full Ice Cream Sandwich update. As for where this latest bit is coming from, a recent article in a Korean newspaper. In other words, this seems like it is far from a final answer and we suspect that we will be seeing another chapter (or more) added to this story.

Otherwise, for those wondering what in the world a “Value Pack” is — well, consider it taking the middle road. Keeping the current installation would be the same (ending) path, an update to Ice Cream Sandwich would be the high-road and this will fall somewhere in between. A value pack is not a full update to Ice Cream Sandwich, however it should be an update that will bring many of the new features.

Bottom line, it looks like Samsung is trying to make this happen. And until then, we wait some additional information, which hopefully will arrive direct from Samsung next time.
