Windows Phone Marketplace Crosses The 50,000 Mark [Windows Phone App Marketplace Reaches Next Milestone, Has Had More Than 8,000 Apps Added In The Previous 30 Days & Crosses The 50,000 Mark]

The Windows Phone Marketplace had 40,000 apps in late-November and it was expected to cross the 50,000 mark by the end of the year. And well, it looks like that milestone has since been achieved — the Windows Phone Marketplace now has more than 50,000 available apps.

Or more specifically, as of the time these numbers were published, the Windows Phone Marketplace had 50,126 apps. That being said, while having more than 50,000 available apps is something to brag about, one could argue that having the bigger name companies is more important. And on that note, Windows Phone does seem to have some of the more desired apps. After all, they have Netflix and Angry Birds. Not to mention two of my favorite and must-have apps — Slacker Radio and Evernote. But then again, it is fairly safe to say that almost every platform has those.

Putting that aside though and looking at the 50,000 number. The folks at the All About Windows Phone blog have offered up a nice breakdown in terms of the numbers. You know, where they came from and how many have been added recently. For example, the news of 40,000 came back in November and since then (in the previous 30 days), the Windows Phone Marketplace has had 8,010 new apps added. And taking that a step further out, the Marketplace has gained 17,276 apps in the previous 90 days.

All said and done, this means that Microsoft is now seeing roughly 265 new apps added per day, which is up from roughly 165 per day back in mid-November. Otherwise, of the 50,126 that have been published, a little under 6,000 have been removed by Microsoft or withdrawn from the publisher. Breaking that number down into regions and we see the following;

  • US (42,655)
  • UK (40,305)
  • France (39,235)
  • Spain (37,027)
  • Italy (36,944)
  • Germany (36,958)
  • Australia (37,024)
  • India (36,752)
  • Singapore (36,922)

And lastly, taking a look at the paid versus free. The details for this break down as follows;

  • 58% of items in the Windows Phone Marketplace are free
  • 14% are paid with a free trial
  • 29% are paid
