Folks who have yet to get their hands on a new iPhone (or upgrade from an older version) might want to consider Best Buy‘s buy one get one free deal, valid today only.

Best Buy is offering a free deal on the previous-generation iPhone 4, which Apple still retails as a mid-range product, alongside its flagship iPhone 4S and the lower-end iPhone 3GS. The offer involves the iPhone 4 32 GB, which sells for $199.99 at the store with either a Verizon or AT&T subscription. This comes out at about $100 each iPhone 4, which is actually the cost of buying a single iPhone 4 8 GB elsewhere.

With the promo, buyers get another iPhone 4 32 GB free. Of course, the catch here is that both smartphones require a two-year subscription upon availment of the promotion. This means that buyers will have to shell out a few hundred dollars for the phone, and for initial subscription for two lines. So, it’s probably best to get an iPhone 4 for this promo if you intend to sign up for more than one subscription, which is likely to be a good idea for families and even businesses in need of new mobile phones.

Still, at $199.99 savings, that’s a good enough deal, that is if you’re not too wanting of Siri, the better camera and A5 processor, and other upgrades that the iPhone 4S offers. The iPhone 4 is still a capable handset, and actually the best-selling smartphone prior to the iPhone 4S’ launch. The iPhone 4 will be  a good upgrade to users still on the 3GS or even older versions of the iPhone. Perhaps Apple (and Best Buy) also want to attract users away from other platforms like Android with promos like this buy one, get one free deal.
