Star Wars: The Old Republic Jedi Flashmob Hits New York in Celebration of the Game’s Launch [New Star Wars MMORPG Game Invites Regular Folks to the Light & Dark Sides, Even in Times Square]
Star Wars enthusiasts already know that Star Wars: The Old Republic, also dubbed as TOR was officially launched a few days ago, and whether you love the light or the dark side of the Force, you can now join the action, for a down-payment and a monthly fee.

But what if the battle was fought in New York City – Times Square to be more precise? Would you happen to have with you a lightsaber to face your opponents? It looks like Jedis and Sith Lords are among us, and they look like plain civilians, just check the video below!
You’ll see that regular characters from the game invade Time Square to engage eachother in a lightsabre battle. But what really surprises the audience is that part of the plainclothes civilians that are supposedly witnessing the fight have their own lightsaber ready to join it. The video is already becoming viral on YouTube, heading towards 1 million hits in just over a day since it was officially posted on the TOR official channel.
Okay, so maybe it was not a spontaneous mob that hit Times Square a few days ago and it’s just all a marketing campaign meant to remind everyone that not only is the MMORPG game available for purchase, but that anyone can join: simply choose their favorite faction and rule the galaxy, while everyone waits for Anakin to be born.
If that TOR-based viral video convinced you it’s time to play the game then you should know there are three versions to choose from, Standard, Digital Deluxe and Collector’s Edition priced at $59.99, $79.99 and $149.99, respectively. Obviously the more you pay for the game, the more extra features you get, but each purchase comes with 30 days of game play. After that you can choose one of the three packages available for contuing to play TOR: $14.99 per month, $41.97 for 3 months or $77.94 for six months. 60-day pre-paid digital game time codes are available and they cost $29.99 each.
Over a million players have already purchased the game thus making it the “fastest growing subscription MMO in the history” of gaming, according to a press release from BioWare. Here are other details about the online TOR gameplay to date:
- Logged 28 million in-game hours – roughly equivalent to watching all six Star Wars movies, two million times
- Averaged well over five hours a day playing the game
- Created more than 3.8 million characters; 510,000 Jedi Knights and 550,000 Sith Warriors
- Killed more than 2 billion non-player characters in the eight days since Early Game Access began
