Porsche Design BlackBerry UK Release Details Revealed

RIM officially announced the P9981 Porsche Design BlackBerry back towards the end of October. At that time they offered plenty of details in terms of the handset itself, but were a bit more vague in terms of the release and pricing details.

And well, it looks like those details have since been revealed. But while that may sound like good news, it looks like the initial availability is going to be a bit limited. Not to mention, a bit on the expensive side. Of course, that is not to say we thought the P9981 was going to be inexpensive.

Anyway, without any further adieu, the Porsche Design BlackBerry P9981 is going to arrive with a SIM-free price tag of £1,275. In terms of making the purchase, for now it looks like the handset will only be available for those in the UK. And more specifically, it looks like it will arrive in the UK by way of Harrods.

Otherwise, if the limited availability and the high price tag has not scared you off just yet — lets offer a brief recap in terms of the specs and overall design of the handset. The device itself is made from a stainless steel casing and is sporting a full leather backing. And as you can see from the above image, the P9981 will have a BlackBerry design in that it has a full hardware QWERTY keyboard sitting below the display with the navigation buttons in the middle.

The specs for the P9981 break down as follows; 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera, 8GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot with support for cards of up to 32GB in size — making for a potential 40GB of storage. Additionally, the Porsche Design BlackBerry will have software tweaks to include a custom-designed Porsche font and icons and a “unique PIN stating with 2AA.”
