Samsung Brings Out Pair Of Galaxy Y Duo Phones

Samsung Galaxy Y Duo & Galaxy Y Pro Duo Both Offer Dual-SIM Operation For Travelers With Plenty Of Other Features

Samsung’s new pair of smartphones, the Galaxy Y Duo and its professional counterpart the Galaxy Y Duo Pro, offer up some pretty impressive options, and if you find yourself doing a lot of traveling, then you’re likely going to want to hear more about this part of smartphones. They’ve got one great feature for travelers–and others besides–the ability to operate with two SIM cards at once.

The two new phones got introduced today, and with them, you’ll be able to have two separate phone numbers as well as different plans, which is great if you find yourself, say, jumping between the United States and Canada, or the United States and Mexico, or whatever pair of adjoining countries you happen to name. You’ll also be able to use data according to your plan, which is a plus, and if you’d like to use the same phone for work as for personal use, you can do that here.

The phones themselves, meanwhile, both pack in Android 2.3, or Gingerbread if you favor the sugary name, as well as a three megapixel rear-facing camera. But there’s some divergence between the two that’s actually somewhat odd. For instance, the Galaxy Y Duo has a slightly larger display than the Pro version (a 3.1 inch QVGA display on the Duo versus a 2.6 inch display on the Duo Pro), but the Duo Pro will come back with a full QWERTY keyboard, a slightly larger battery (the Duo offers a 1350 mAh battery whilst the Duo offers a 1300 mAh battery), and an additional front-facing VGA camera for your videoconferencing needs.

No one’s talking about pricing on these just yet, but they’re looking to ship these out in January to a variety of countries in sequence. Sadly short on the list is anything North American, as this looks to release just about everywhere else. Considering the wide abundance of handsets in the North American market, though, this may make some sense. That and there’s probably not much call for dual SIM card systems in a place where there aren’t that many countries to go to.

But what do you guys think here? Disappointed that the Samsung Galaxy Y Duo or the Y Duo Pro won’t be coming your way? Looking forward to getting one if it is…or even if it isn’t? No matter what you think, we always love hearing from you, so head on down to the comments section and tell us what you think!

will they be available here in the philippines?

    2. I have not actually heard of a release schedule for the Philippines, but considering how much of the Asian market was in on this, it’s a fair bet.

Very disappointed that this won’t be available for Australian’s to purchase as it looks as though it would service our needs for our business and personal mobile use at the same time. Being a frequent international traveller it would also cover this basis as well. Please rethink your sales/marketing of this product.
