iMAME Game Emulator App Now Available In The iOS App Store [iMAME App Comes Available For iOS; Can Be Downloaded For Free & Arrives As Universal App With Support For The iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad]

The iOS platform seems to becoming quite the popular little game platform. Of course, while we have seen plenty of games hit the iOS App Store in the past, including some classic style games — this latest comes as a nice surprise and should be a welcomed addition for those into arcade gaming.

The app is called iMAME and it arrives as a free app with support for the iPad as well as the iPhone and iPod touch. Yup, iMAME arrives not only as a free app, but also a universal app that should look equally as nice on the larger screen of the iPad and the smaller screen of the iPhone.

The iMAME app arrives as version 1.0, measures in as a 38.1MB file and requires iOS 4.3 or later for use. And nicely done, iMAME comes complete with not one or two games — but nine games in total.

“iMAME is an application designed to recreate the hardware of arcade game systems in software on modern personal computers and other platforms. The intention is to preserve gaming history by preventing vintage games from being lost or forgotten.”

In terms of those games, that list includes the following titles;

Circus
Crash
Fire One
Hard Hat
Robot Bowl
Side Track
Spectar
Star Fire
Targ

With that, we cannot help but think how this game landed at an almost perfect time (and at a perfect price). After all, we are just coming into the holiday weekend, which should mean that plenty of you will have some extra time on your hands. And while we suggest spending some time with family, we would not be good geeks if we did not also suggest spending some quality time with your gadgets as well — you know, because sometimes family gatherings can get a bit hectic and a bit stressful.
