Final Fantasy XIII-2 Tops Japan Sales Charts

Final Fantasy XIII-2 Debuts At Number One On Japanese Software Charts, 3DS Titles Make A Strong Showing In Top 5

Break out the champagne, because Square Enix’s latest Final Fantasy installment managed to pull in 525,000 sales in its first week of availability in Japan. This was enough to shoot it to the top of the software charts, giving it a debut at number one. However, it’s lonely at the top as Final Fantasy XIII-2 was joined by four 3DS titles to round out the top five. Make the jump to find out what those games were.

Monster Hunter Tri-G managed to take the number 2 spot, but trailed far behind Final Fantasy XIII-2 with 208,427 units sold. Mario Kart 7 finished with a bronze medal last week, selling 182,418 units as it closes in on one million lifetime sales, while Inazuma Eleven Go and Super Mario 3D Land made showings at fourth and fifth place, respectively. But how did the PS Vita launch titles do? Funny you should ask, because we happen to have the full top 20 list on hand. Have a look:

  • Final Fantasy XIII-2 (PS3) – 525,271 (New)
  • Monster Hunter Tri G (3DS) – 208,427 (730,386)

  • Lord of Apocalypse (PSV) – 28,742 (New)
  • One Piece Gigant Battle! 2 (DS) – 28,406 (207,458)

Overall, it wasn’t a bad week for PS Vita‘s launch titles, considering that they were only available for two days before the week was over. I expect that we’ll see them move in the charts this week, but I think that Final Fantasy XIII-2 can pull off another week or two in the top spot as well. It is worth pointing out, however, that over 1 million copies of Final Fantasy XIII sold on launch day alone in Japan.

So, with that little factoid out in the open, is Final Fantasy XIII-2‘s 500,000 copies a case of Final Fantasy fatigue, or what this just a slow software week? Head down to the comments section to tell us what you think!
