iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak Shown Off in Video

Developer Pod2G Proves iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak Is Possible, But Not on the iPhone 4S or iPad 2

A few days ago we told you that Pod2g’s iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak is working on the iPhone 4, iPad and iPod touch 4G and that the hacker will soon release it after testing it on older iOS devices that can run iOS 5.0.1.

Pod2g uploaded a video on YouTube to prove the fact the untethered jailbreak works on the iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0.1 thus suggesting that a public release date is on its way. Moving past the fact that the video is recorded in portrait mode instead of landscape, we notice from the start the phone is running iOS 5.0.1. Furthermore Cydia is present on the one of the home screens, which means the iPhone 4 has been jailbroken, and as you can see in the video, Cydia works as expected.

In order to prove the fact that we’re looking at an untethered jailbreak the next obvious step is to turn off the device and boot it back up in a jailbreak state without connecting it to a computer – which would be required with a tethered jailbreak. Sure, the reboot is a bit lengthy, but as you can see, everything works after rebooting the jailbroken device.

Here’s what Pod2g posted on his blog earlier today when releasing the video:

Here is a new video demo of the current status of the 5.0.1 jailbreak running on an iPhone 4.

This is meant to reassure people that were thinking it only works on older iPods.

The jailbreak is near ready for prime time (excluding 4S and iPad 2).

Patches are the same as redsn0w‘s. Expect the same level of stability.

Some more days to wait. Be patient, we’re doing our best.

While this iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak tool won’t support the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 – devices that can’t be jailbroken with tethered tools like Redsn0w either – the hacker is also working on jailbreaking Apple’s A5-based devices, and we’ll be back with updates on his progress in the near future. But while we do keep you informed on the latest jailbreak and unlock updates for iOS devices, we certainly don’t encourage you to use such tools even if jailbreaking and/or unlocking iOS devices can be legally done now by any iDevice user.
