Verizon Wireless Details Latest Casio G’zOne Commando Software Update [Verizon Details, Looks Ready To Begin Rolling Out A Maintenance Style Update For The Casio G'zOne Commando Smartphone]

Verizon Wireless originally launched the Casio G’zOne Commando smartphone with Android 2.2 Froyo back towards the end of April. And well, since then we saw the handset get early support for Netflix and an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread which came in late-September.

That being said, it looks like Verizon is getting ready to begin rolling-out another software update for the Commando. Sadly though, while seemingly a worthwhile update, this one is not going to be quite as exciting as getting Gingerbread. In other words, don’t even think for a minute that this is bringing Ice Cream Sandwich.

Instead, this latest update is coming as a maintenance style update. According to the details posted on the Verizon support pages, this will arrive as software update C771M080. The update will measure in at 18.6MB in size and is said to need about 5 to 10 minutes to download and then another 5 to 10 minutes to install. In other words, you should probably wait to update until you have a good 30 minutes of time that you can go without using your phone. In terms of what those with a Casio G’zOne Commando can expect with this update, here is the changelog;

Device Features

  • Android Security patches have been added.
  • Improved user interaction with display while proximity sensor is activated.
  • Updated clock widget.

Email, Messaging & Web

  • Fixed errors when opening the native email app.
  • Improved keystroke performance when composing an email.
  • Applications & Widgets

    • Enabled Netflix compatibility with Gingerbread OS version of device software.
    • VZ Navigator™ 3D City downloads.

With all that, there are the usual two options — first being to sit back and wait for the update notification to arrive on your handset and second being to take the pro-active approach and check manually. If you fall into the latter category, grab your Commando and navigate to Menu -> Settings -> About phone -> System Updates -> Check New to see if it is ready for your handset. And as always, while we suspect that many ignore this warning — we suggest being patient and waiting at least a few days before updating. You know, just in case the update launches with some issues.
