Google Delays The Android 4.0.3 Update On The Samsung Nexus S [Nexus S Ice Cream Sandwich Update Delayed, Google Cites The Need To Monitor Feedback]
Google had announced, and even begun rolling out Android 4.0.3 for the Nexus S. And well, despite that good bit of news only coming a few days back — it now looks like Google has pulled back on the Ice Cream Sandwich roll-out for the Nexus S.

The details are coming by way of the Google Support Forums where a thread is starting to build with reports of users having gotten an update notification only to find out that their phone “is currently up to date.” Of course, the key here is that while the phones are saying that they are up to date, they are still running Gingerbread.
Bottom line, it looks like there are plenty of angry Nexus S users right about now. Some managed to not only get the notification, but also go through the process of downloading the update only to have it fail and go to a “currently up to date” state when trying to install that update. In short, Google has stopped offering the Nexus S Ice Cream Sandwich update.
And coming as many of these Google Support Forums threads, an employee did chime in with a brief status update. According to Paul, the Google employee that posted, the update has been paused while they monitor feedback.
“If you received an update notification a little while ago but the update isn’t currently available for your phone, this is likely the result of Google pausing the update in your area while we monitor feedback. The Android 4.0 update is continuing to roll out around the world so your phone will receive another update notification when it’s available again in your region.”
That all being said, it looks like Google has pulled the update due to battery drain complaints. And while we can understand Nexus S users being disappointed, this is the exact reason why we here at TFTS often suggest waiting a few days before updating your smartphone — because things sometimes go wrong. Me personally, getting off Gingerbread would be nice, however not nice to the point that I would want a battery draining version of Ice Cream Sandwich.
All said and done, if you are a Nexus S user, you need to remain on the lookout for another update notification to arrive.
