Galaxy S II & Galaxy Note Ice Cream Sandwich Updates Coming in Q1 2012 [Samsung Android 4.0 Upgrades Include: Galaxy S II Models, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9 & Galaxy Tab 7.7]

Samsung officially announced earlier today the first batch of Android handsets that are going to get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade, and you’ll certainly be annoyed to hear that only eight devices have been mentioned, four smartphones and four tablets, that’s if the Galaxy Note is considered to be more a handset than a tablet.

Without further ado, here are “the ICS-ugradeable devices” as listed on Samsung’s official company blog:

The first two devices to get the ICS update will be the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Note, with a release date set for the first quarter of 2012. Before you get too excited we’ll remind you how “fast” the original Galaxy S was updated to Froyo last year, but hopefully Samsung has done its lesson this time around. ICS roll out dates for the other devices have not been offered yet but it did note that further announcements on the matter are to be expected in the future:

For upgradable models, Samsung will make separate announcements on details of OS updates schedule for each market according to market situation and carriers’ requirements.

What’s interesting to note is that Samsung did not really leave any room to interpretation regarding other devices launched by the company that should/could be updated to ICS in the following year. Such devices include the Droid Charge, the Samsung Stratosphere, the Infuse 4G, and various other handsets that were at some point or another considered flagship Android creations.

We’ll be back with more news on the future ICS upgrades for Samsung’s Galaxy-branded devices, but in the mean time let us know how you feel about the announcement. What Samsung Android handset would you like to see upgraded to ICS next year?
