The Oona is a new simple smartphone accessory that could make your life a lot easier in many instances, especially if you need a mobile stand for your beloved mobile device.

The mount is made of a single piece of aircraft-grade scratch-resistant polished anodized aluminum, which can be used to sustain the weight of regular smartphones, including the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, when mounting them on various surfaces. The Oona, a name that derives from the Latin word “una” that means “one,” is one accessory that can be used in various scenarios – see video below – as long as you remember to pick it up when you leave the house.

The obvious choice for the Oona would be to use it into a GPS mount, one that’s cheaper than other similar accessories and that can be taken with you to use a stand at home or at the ofice. But the feature that I like best is the camera mount option, which can turn a smartphone into a more professional camera ready to take better pictures and record pro videos. I’m particularly thinking about the iPhone 4S’ picture-taking and video-recording capabilities, but other devices can be similarly combined with the Oona by passionate photographers.

The Oona is so small you can hardly see it in some of the images above but the device can sustain about 8 ounces or just over 225g of weight, so while it will hold most smartphones, I wouldn’t use it as a tablet mount, and considering its overall size it may not even be worth exploring such a possibility in the first place.

The Oona project raised its funding via Kickstarter earlier this summer and from the looks of it, it got plenty of backers excited. The device can be ordered right away and ships worldwide, hopefully in time for Christmas.
