Skyrim Unseats Modern Warfare 3 On UK Charts

After enjoying a five week stint at the top of the UK sales charts, Modern Warfare 3 has finally been dethroned. Bethesda’s epic RPG (and Game of the Year) Skyrim managed to push Modern Warfare 3 out of the top spot this week, moving up from the fifth place ranking it held last week.

With Modern Warfare 3 holding down the top spot since both games launched, this is a pretty big accomplishment for Bethesda and Skyrim. Skyrim enjoyed a jump in sales after retailers across the UK cut the price on the game, and that surge is responsible for Skyrim riding into first.

Aside from the battle for first place, the UK top sellers charts also held some other surprises, with Just Dance 3 cruising into third place. FIFA 12 was bumped from second to fourth this week, and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations dropped two spots as well, falling to fifth. Here’s the list full list of this week’s top ten sellers in the UK:

1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
2. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
3. Just Dance 3
4. FIFA 12
5. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
6. Battlefield 3
7. Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Call
8. Saints Row: The Third
9. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
10. Mario Kart 7

So, the question now is whether Skyrim can keep the top spot away from Modern Warfare 3 next week. So long as retailers keep offering Skyrim at a discounted price, it should be able to eek out another week in the top spot, but once the price of Skyrim begins to go back up, it will probably begin falling once more. Just Dance 3 has also been consistently climbing the charts in the UK, so maybe we’re in for an upset from the Dance Central competitor as well?
