Apple Adds References To Variety Of New Devices In iOS 5.1 Beta 2 Code
Watching the iOS code for potential leaks to future devices has been popular for some time now, but current reports suggest that Apple may be onto the trick, and has adapted accordingly. See, if the newest run of Apple code is to be believed, iOS 5.1 beta 2 code is prepared for both the iPad and the iPhone to go all the way up to 11.

The file in question, USBDeviceConfiguration.plist, has been the subject of frequent dissection by Mark Gurman over at 9to5mac. And going all the way through it, references to a host of devices–including iPod 11 and Apple TV 8–have been unearthed in the code. Naturally, we’re nowhere near any of those yet, and assuming that Apple sticks to its releasing schedule, we won’t be anywhere near those devices until around 2020. And by that time, even iOS 5.0 will likely be little more than a sad reminder of how slow and unpleasant computers used to be.
Some might wonder if these are placeholders, designed to make future versions of coding a bit easier in the future, but that wouldn’t account for the dizzying array of products covering most of the rest of the decade’s worth of future development. No, more likely is what others have theorized, that Apple’s trying to throw tech bloggers off the scent by adding in a wide array of new devices that won’t exist for years in their operating system’s code.

But then, just how much have they thrown anyone off to begin with? It’s not as though no one expects that there won’t be, at some point, an iPhone 11, or even an iPad 11 (though I admit the idea of an iPod 11 seems a bit unlikely), so adding references to them in the code is almost like saying that the sun will rise on the morning of June 19th, 2034. It’s not exactly a lead-pipe cinch, but not really a super long-shot either.
So what do you guys think here? Clever move from Apple to the tech community? Or a statement of likely fact? No matter what you think, we always like hearing from you down in the comments section below!
