Sony Ericsson Nozomi Spotted in the Wild

New Android Smartphone Photographed Well Ahead of Its Time, Release Date Not Mentioned Yet

The Sony Ericsson Nozomi, which appeared in Android-related rumors a couple of months ago, has posed for the camera with months ahead of its official launch.

The handset has been spotted somewhere in Hong Kong, although Sony Ericsson is yet to officially confirm its existence. The Nozomi appears to be one of the company’s 2012 flagship devices and we wouldn’t be surprised to see the handset get official in the following months, either at CES 2012 or MWC 2012.

The somewhat blurred image of the Sony Ericsson Nozomi suggests the phone will come with a more than decent touchscreen display, and we notice the lack of physical buttons on the bottom side of the device. Is the Nozomi shipping with Ice Cream Sandwich or Gingerbread on board?

While an actual specs sheet has not accompanied this new Nozomi image, a recent report suggested quite a few features for the handset. And apparently some of the hardware details contained in the following set of specs and features have been unofficially confirmed by the person that took the photo.

Here’s what the Nozomi is expected to offer in terms of hardware features:

  • 4.3-inch touchscreen display with 1,280 x 720 resolution
  • 342 PPI pixel density (bigger than the iPhone 4’s 326 PPI)
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 32GB of internal storage (no memory card slot support)
  • NFC support
  • 1,750mAh battery
  • microSIM support
  • Android OS with custom UI on top.

Considering that the Xperia Arc has been unveiled at CES 2011, chances are that Sony Ericsson will announce new Android hardware during the upcoming show in Las Vegas, and the Nozomi may be just one of the new devices the company will officially introduce at the event. However, the handset will hit carrier stores only later next year, with actual release dates as well as pricing information for the Nozomi still being a mystery.
