Raptr Announces Most Played Games Of 2011
With 2011 winding down fast, it’s time to find out which games players enjoyed most this year. The Spike Video Game Awards are happening tomorrow, but ahead of the ceremony, game tracking network Raptr has announced the most played games of 2011, according to its statistics.

The usual suspects are all present on the list: Modern Warfare 3, unsurprisingly, is the most played shooter of the year, while The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the most played RPG and Batman: Arkham City is the most played open world game of 2011. The Sims Social managed to beat out all varieties of Ville titles to take the crown as the most played social game, whereas FIFA Soccer 12 and L.A. Noire took most played sports game and most played new IP, respectively.
So, knowing which games took the top spot in their respective genres, what do you think was the most played game of the year? Modern Warfare 3? Nope. Battlefield 3? Wrong again! It was actually Skyrim, news that made for the most surprising reveal in Raptr’s report.

Aside from the winners of this year’s most played titles, Raptr also had a few other interesting statistics to share. For instance, Modern Warfare 3 had twice as many players in its opening month than Battlefield 3‘s opening month had, and Skyrim was played six times more than Dragon Age 2, its closest competitor in terms of total play time. 2011 was a big year for DC Universe Online as well, with Raptr saying that the game enjoyed a 2500% increase in play time per day after becoming a free-to-play MMO.
Those are some pretty impressive stats to say the least, and it’s more than a little surprising to see Skyrim beat Modern Warfare 3 as far as total playtime is concerned. What do you guys think of these results? Were you expecting Skyrim to be the most played game of the year? What’s your most played game of 2011?
