The Last Story Gets February Release Date In Europe

Nintendo Announces February Release Date For The Last Story In Europe, No Word On North American Release

Aside form the The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, there hasn’t been much to write home about on the Wii this year. Even though there haven’t been many notable releases on Nintendo’s hit console in 2011, the Wii has still been in the news quite a bit this year.

That’s all thanks to three elusive RPGs that fans in Europe and North America have been crying out for. Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora’s Tower are widely considered to be some of the best JRPGs in recent history, and many gamers were trying for the better part of the year to get Nintendo to bring these games to regions outside of Japan.

Europe was the first region to get Nintendo to cave. Xenoblade Chronicles was released in Europe months ago, and we’ve known about the European version of The Last Story for nearly as long. Today, Nintendo announced that The Last Story will be releasing in Europe on February 24th, 2012, meaning that those who loved Xenoblade don’t have to wait much longer to play the second game in this fabled group of JRPGs (with a European version of Pandora’s Tower on the way as well).

This announcement comes on the heels of the reveal of a North American version of Xenoblade Chronicles, which is scheduled for release in April of next year. Now that North Americans know that they’ll be getting Xenoblade, many are probably wondering if Nintendo of America will bring The Last Story to US shores as well. NoA will probably wait to see how The Last Story does in Europe before it makes a decision about a North American version – just like it did with Xenoblade – but if the European success of Xenoblade is any indication, then North Americans will probably be playing The Last Story before long.

Then again, whether or not The Last Story release Stateside probably has a lot to do with how well Xenoblade sells in North America, so let’s hope that those who were waiting on a NTSC release didn’t decide to just import the game from Europe!
